Manchester United at Euro 2008

Written by Soccerlens

For a club that’s conquered England and Europe this season, you’d expect Manchester United to have more than 5 players going to Euro 2008.

But United’s squad is both English (or British) in its core and cosmopolitan in its nature - from South America to South Korea with a heavy dose of British talent coupled with the best of Europe, United have forged a team of champions all around.

Enough gloating - here are the 5 United players going to Euro 2008:

Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani (Portugal)

One is the best player in the world on current form and the other his future successor (sans the good looks) - Portugal may not have the best strikers in Europe but with Ronaldo they will be hoping for at least a trip to the semis and most likely a place in the final.

Expect both Nani and Ronaldo to be in the thick of things.

Patrice Evra (France)

Evra will be second choice to Abidal but he has the ability to slot in when needed and will be hoping for a game or two at least.

France will have a difficult time with the tougher side of the draw and the Group of Death to get through, but they at least have talent right across the park to win matches.

Edwin van der Sar (Holland)

It’s the final international outing for the Dutch #1 and if his performances in Germany 06 are anything to go by, he’ll raise his game for the big stage and go out on a high.

Tomasz Kuszczak (Poland)

He goes in the tournament as backup and is unlikely to feature in a game unless Boruc gets injured. Not that he’ll miss much with Poland expected to go out in the group stages.

Not much to write home about, is there? I’m guessing that as long as Ronaldo stays at United Portugal will be the second team, although if either Huntelaar or Benzema join Old Trafford things could change in a hurry.

    Kuszczak’s out by the way

One day I see a pic of him skidding on his stomach on a wet grassy pitch

Next day I hear he has injured his back and is out of Euro

..it was coming. That guy really pisses me off

He was great for WBrom but he is Not a top-12 prem league goalie.
