Manchester United approach Bayern for Thomas Muller
This summer is simply going to be massive for Manchester United and their fans. Unlike other transfer window, this has to be different. United are in dire need of reinforcement. New manager Louis van Gaal will be given a hefty transfer war-chest and it is expected he will lure top international players across the world to Old Trafford, despite the absence of Champions League football.
Thomas Muller is one of the players, United have been linked with for the past two months. The 24-year-old Bayern Munich attacking midfielder, who impressed during the last World Cup, is one of the players Van Gaal likes and wants to bring him at Old Trafford.
German magazine Kicker basically started this Muller to Manchester United rumour and since then it has gathered momentum in both British and German press.
Muller, valued around €45m, has scored 13 times in 25 Bundesliga starts under Pep Guardiola last season, but wants greater clarification, whether the club views him as an “essential component of the first XI” for next season.
“I have reached the point where I want to know if I am an essential component of the Bayern Munich first XI for the new season and if the club has plans for me over the coming years,” Müller told the German magazine Stern.
“That’s why I will be out to have a meeting. I am not the type of guy that says: ‘All right, I have played a good part and will keep my mouth shut and everyone else is able to do with me whatever he wants.’ As a Munich boy your test at Bayern Munich is always a bit tougher, but we [players from the youth academy] are the grassroots of this club.”
“It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players,” he added.
Now, German newspaper Bild reporting today that Manchester United have officially approached Bayern Munich for Muller, after consulting with their new manager, two weeks ago.
The versatile midfielder would be a great asset for any team no doubt, but it remains to be seen whether Bayern allows him to leave at all as the German giants are not willing to part ways with Muller.
