Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has picked up an ankle injury during England’s 2-0 win over France.

The former Monaco striker was kicked near the penalty box and was seen in crutches.

Manchester United are already plagued with injuries to key players and now Martial could add to that list. The likes of Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick are already sidelined for a while.

Manchester United are struggling to score goals this season and the young French striker has been their primary source of goals so far. Since his big money move from Monaco, the young striker has impressed a lot and his absence will be deeply felt by his side.

Louis Van Gaal is already planning to add to his team in January and if Martial is sidelined for a while the Dutchman might have to alter his plans and sign a striker as priority.

There is dearth of quality strikers in the market and no club is willing to part with their assets in the middle of the season. In these circumstances, replacing a player like Martial will be a massive challenge for Manchester United.

The Old Trafford outfit will be hoping that the injury is just a knock. The extent of damage is still unknown but France manager Didier Deschamps has said that he is hoping the player will be back soon.

“He was in quite a bit of pain after the match,” said Deschamps.

“He got a kick in the penalty area. I think it’s just a knock rather than anything else to the top of his foot.”
