Manchester United and Nani’s new deal
Over at Red Rants we were discussing the new contract Nani has ’supposedly’ signed at Sporting Lisbon, and a couple of things popped up about the reporting of this news that looked suspicious.
For starters, both Goal.com and Sky Sports put up identical versions of the news release, and Atletico Madrid was pointedly mentioned as holding an interest in Nani.
From what I remember, AM have not been as interested as Manchester United (and certainly not for this long).
There’s also a complete absence of quotes, nor is there any mention on the Sporting club website either.
So apparently, now, without any quotes or statements from the club / player, everyone’s under the assumption that the player has a buyout clause of 20m and now Manchester United will have to pay Sporting that much.
Are Manchester United interested in Nani? Of course. Are they going to pay 20m? No way. Like RR says, maybe for Ribery but not for Nani.
Here’s what I think happened:
Nani’s agent - or possibly a club official - talked to the press about a possible deal for Nani that bound him to the club till 2013 and put a 20m buy-out clause in his contract. The Spanish or Portuguese press ran with it, and a few days later it’s accepted as common truth.
I could be grasping at straws here, I know. But when players sign contracts there’s usually a press mention of the event, something with quotes, etc as well as a mention on the club site.
Nothing here in this case.
So should Manchester United fans be worried? Sporting obviously want to keep Nani for as long as they can, and if he really has such a contract (or if he ends up signing it), then we can probably write him off and focus on Ribery / Pedersen.
Obviously Sporting is trying to milk Utd. 20 million for Nani? No fucking way. He is unproven in the top flights, way too skinny still and look at the other options you can get for 20 million. My gosh. I think the news reports are a scam to bump his price up.
In my opinion Ribery is way overrated. If Nani is priced out i think we should look down other routes. Personally i like the thought of Tevez, who could fill Giggs’ void in the rotating 3 forward tactic which you have talked of before, Ahmed. Also, Tevez has said today/yesterday that he wants a move to a “european giant”, so its now a question of who wants him the most. If we miss out on Nani, that might just be us.
20 mil for Nani? are you kidding me Sporting Lisbon? no way that will happen. when United show interest to a player, then suddenly the price get higher. i don’t think it’s necessary for United to get him while that winger position still can be fullfill by other. there’s a lot winger who are much cheaper. next time, don’t tell others who we want.
The reports have to be false, for one simple reason alone. That being the fact that last week himself, nani said that he was desperate for a move to united and would do anything to play alongside ronaldo again. Now if nani had said that himself, why would he go and sign a contract extension that pushes up his buyout clause and makes his much desired move even more improbable ? it makes no logical sense and i for one never believed in it the report.
My biz partner is a Portuguese and we checked out Sporting’s official site and one of Portgal’s most famus football side together and the news was that Nani has not yet signed a new contract.
Having said that, Nani’s agent is also Ronaldo’s agent and I’m sure he’s going to get as much money for himself, the player and Sporting as he can. Can’t really blame him either…..
Really hope we can land Tevez instead
I personally feel that a player of Nani’s calibre would be most influential with the type of fast play that Fergie is trying to emplement in our yougsters. Ribbery is over-rated
nani and anderson are as good as ronaldinho and hargreves is a excillent player and he is as good as gerrard and lampard all they need know is to buy alex from PSV and they need to buy Huntlaar from Ajax or fernando torres from Athletico madrid

NANI IS A WASTE OF MONEY??!?!?!. he is a briliant player and is only twenty.dont forget that c.ronaldo figo amd pieter shemichel are all form sporting. in the begging no one liked any of them and now they are all great players. nani is fast young fit dribbles well and young. i think him ronaldo rooney will make a great team. HES NOT A WASTE OF MONEY!
