Manchester United - all the ‘SIGNS’ point to a City-thrashing

Written by Guest Authors. Tagged: Manchester United

SL reader Anirudh Agarwala writes in, and he’s not happy with the criticism Manchester United are receiving from their own fans. He feels, rightly so, that the fans should be positive.

Yes! It’s the time for the SIGNs……

Any self respecting Manchester United fan would have hid under the pillows and bed covers by now and would be ashamed of showing himself … at least that’s what all the forums will have me believe…

The argument goes on … Manchester United have been rubbish.. actually no ‘giggs’ has been rubbish and our MIDFIELD is out of sorts and we don’t have a forward we can depend upon….. to, we were complacent in the market and did not address the 1 actual problem that we had (a target man – to finish off our play).. to, Manchester United can’t play the 4-5-1 due to the lack of technical ability of SAF to adjust his players to the same and where the hell are our signings and why is O’Shea a substitute when we need goals after we spent about 60 mill pounds in the market…..

Well the answer lies thus, we are RUBBISH at being rubbish… any person who has seen the two games will realize that even though the results don’t show, we have by far dominated the two games (even IF all the above criticisms ARE correct). We did seem to create chances in abundance but did not take them. Agreed, most of them were half chances but they were chances none the less and last season we were finishing them off. It seems like the stuffing has been knocked out of the squad and we are a incoherent bunch of superstars because even though we did dominate the games our passing was astray.

I still cannot understand why the player of the year of last season and pipped to be footballer of the year (after Kaka) was not given even half as much of the ball that the new youngster NANI was given. Agreed he impressed but he is just a Ronaldo ‘in the making’ and is nowhere near the quality that he will achieve in the future years. Loads of people have suggested that Ron was covered and marked by Pompey but so was he last season. One of the reasons that I was so highly impressed and over the moon by the signings we made was that it would not only bring more performers to the club but they will attract the attention of the defenders and it would get very difficult to put two men on Ronaldo as teams did last season. Tevez and Nani were supposed to draw the players from Ronaldo and not the other way round!!!!

The result of the same was the dismissal of Ronaldo because he is a player who likes the ball and not getting it only frustrated him into that ‘alleged’ head butt. Well we don’t have him for 3 matches now and we need to get a push along without the two main-stays of our attack.

However, coming back from my fit of disappointment , we have our back against the walls but surely these are the signs that we are back to what we do best. DO THINGS THE HARD WAY AROUND. We love to have our backs against the walls and we love to keep the world against us. We are always OUT to prove a point. That’s the mentality that SAF breeds and that’s the mentality that the Manchester United fans most associate do (DON’T WE). Perform when the World thinks we are finished. The situation right now in no way means that we are finished but considering that we drew our games against reading and Portsmouth when we were pipped to have too much quality for them we need to prove a point and come Sunday we will have proven that, without Rooney and Ronaldo, and trust me we wont scrape through the game as the Pundits suggest but we will clobber Manchester City ‘Errikkson or No ERRIKKSON’ (sorry for the spelling – never seem to get it right)……

So while the World would read the SIGNs as Manchester United are missing a Striker and hence will struggle to retain the title, I see the sign as CITY – You are in for a thrashing…..

P.S. When I say ‘even IF all the above criticisms ARE correct’ does not mean that I agree of disagree to any of them. It is merely a NO COMMENTS on the matter as the same has been discussed over and over again and I don’t want this article to become another forum for criticism. Look ahead guys… what’s done is done…. And any amount of banter can’t change it….

Fair enough bro u made ur point lets wait and watch if the red flag keep flying over the city stadium
I expect another draw but u never know in football :)

  2. im predicting 2-2 OR 3-2 to united.

  3. With Roo and Ronnie out we will have to show that we are one of the best(if not the best!) clubs in the world. we`re man united, come on. we may have got a bad start to the season, but it is only played 2 games. if we dont win at COMS, remember that we have met very tough opponents…remember last season, when we lost at pompey and only just won against reading. Chelsea met an easy opponent in Birmingham and Reading controlled the whole game against them. Chelsea scored on two counter-attacks and Reading actually attacked in that game. Tevez was not fully match fit against Pompey, and would probably have scored if he was!
Prediction: United 2:0 City. Tight game but we will show class and the mark of Champions. Tevez and Ginger Ninja to score.

  5. Love this line mate: “The argument goes on … Manchester United have been rubbish.. actually no ‘giggs’ has been rubbish…”

haha! but yeah, what you mentioned are quite rightly said. united need’s more pace and flair like last season.. where ron and roon combined frequently, exchanging positions over a period of time and all that.

and im going for a 3-1 to united !hopefully giggs procudces his best for the next 3 matches before he takes his seat on the bench thereafter! :P

  6. mate i would love nothing better in this world to wipe the smirk off city fans’ faces by thrashing them. However, its not that people have been rubbish or that we arnt putting them away thats bothering me. Hell its two games in and we are just getting into things now. My problem is the so obvious lack in tactics and planning. Fergie has gone into this new system where the top 4 .. ie wingers and strikers all move around all the contribute. Its a great plan if it works and all but the problem is that is isnt. At them end of the day if everyone is moving around and giving the opposing defence problem, no one seems to know who is supposed to be the one at the the end of plays. Who is supposed to charge in, who is supposed to stay on the flanks to pick up loose balls and who is supposed to stay on the edge of the box. No matter how much much we want it to be, ronaldo giggs and nani are not strikers so you cant expect them to put away all chances and you sure as hell cant expect tevez, a new unfit signing to adapt right away .. it took him some 20 odd games for him to score for the hammers. So who does that leave ? NO ONE ! Saha is injured as usual, ole is a bit part player at best who is also injured, rooney out for 2 months, rossi and smith sold .. and dong no where to be seen. So who the hell is supposed to score ? and what is this shit with giggs playing behind the striker .. it offers no balance to the team and you cant expect one striker to take on a 4 man defence. yes im pissed and yes i expect better and yes ill admit im a little fearful of the next few games and although united are defined with their backs against the wall fighting attitude .. sometimes it just isnt enough.

  7. Scholes should play behind Tevez. My team v city: Sar; Wes, Rio, Vida, Pat; Nani, Carrick, Sheasy, Giggs; Scholes; Tevez.

Yeah i think scholes should be played behind tevez to, giggs isent doing a good job at all,so put him left wing and what about owen and anderson they played in pre season so why arent they even on the bench in games is beyond me. nani is still learning as we all can see his first touch isent perfect and finshing either, by far i think maybe fletch could be in the middle or something.

  9. i totally agree with everything you had to say but the last time we lost to in a row at the beginning of the season we won the treble, so hopefully it will be another treble season. Also we drew against Reading last season and we lost against Pompey so i dont think we should be worrying anyway.

  10. Giggs is still a good player but only if played in his natural position–The left wing. In the name of his development you let Evra run the entire length of left pitch and then expect Giggs to perform. Nonsense. Evra is eating into Gigg’s space, Giggs is not that versatile to play anywhere on pitch. Fergie tried this experiment and has failed. You wont see Giggs anywhere but left wing from now on.
If you want to fully utilize Giggs play Heinze instead of Evra as Heinze just defends the left flank and doesnt run past the half line. So hold onto Heinze if you want Giggs to perform.

Nani is crap in English scenario, so is overpriced Hargreaves. Tevez played awesome for WestHam coz his very career was at stake. He never wanted to stay there instead always wanted to move on and if he didnt perform he wudnt have been noticed by Big Cubs. So dont expect him to show you the WestHam form unless you show him the right money. (Mark my words, Tevez will be your best player in Champions league games. Again to attract attention of bigger clubs)

“manutdfc13″ my friend, the treble you guys won in 1998/99 was when there was no rival nearly your equal. Now things have changed, hell even Pompey and Royals are kicking your arses.

Last, Man City would beat you guys.

  11. i am worried of what u said of tevez is true lets hope not :D, and about hargraeves well we cant judge him since he never plays xd, agree what u said about giggs.

  12. Scholes is a hell of a player and should score against city if he plays up with Tevez. Some partnership or what

  13. United win 2-0/3-1

  14. I agree with everything you say.

I can smell Roma and seventh heaven in the air.

  15. well, turns out united lost 1-0

  16. August 19, 2007Peter Doherty. As good as it gets!

Well, we beat you 1-0, muppets. So much idiocy on one site!

  17. August 20, 2007Andrew Wall

Man U arent playing shit at all i have to say. At reading we just couldnt penetrate the defensive at portsmouth we havent had a gd result there in a while and city were getting battered if u actually watched it, the score lines dont represent the way there playing at all. But we do definetly need a forward RUUD filled that position perfectly fergie was stupid to get rid of him he is one of the best forwards in the world.
