United will not buy Martins. He is much too similar to Tevez and Rooney. United do not need strikers who play best in the hole; they need another out and out central striker.

Fergie will buy Anelka or he won't buy anyone. It depends on how much faith he has in Saha. Can he afford to rely on Saha remaining fit (in body and mind) for the rest of the season? Saha last started a game for United in February. In all his time at United, Anelka has always got injured after a run of games and been unavailable for long periods of time.

We know that Solskjaer and Dong/Campbell will not cut it at the highest levels this season.

Can Fergie really let the whole of United's season hang by the dodgy sinews in Saha's legs? Would it be taking too great a risk not to buy a proven central striker?

When Rooney is fit again, He and Tevez and Martin would be 3 very very similar type players. How would Fergie accomodate them? Don't buy in panic!!

it looks unlikely that Martins will be allowed to leave.

Isn't that the point of having a buy-out clause - that if Martins really wants to leave, Newcastle don't have a choice? Obviously, they can always offer more money.

Whether he'd want to leave is a different question.
