Manchester United wipe Old Trafford turf with Arsenal – without Ronaldo
Manchester United overwhelmed (and that’s understating it) Arsenal at Old Trafford with a thumping 4-0 win in the 5th round of the FA Cup. It was a comprehensive win with Manchester United clearly dominating from start to finish. The game brought back memories of Fulham and Roma from last season, and had Rooney put his finishing boots on (although it’s hard to fault the man after his efforts in the game), it could have been much more humiliating for Arsenal.

I knew this article was coming.. Was hanging around here coz I expected it…
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:02Add to that ‘Pool losing at home and voila you got a recipe for a perfect weekend
Absolutely brilliant performance against a surpirsingly weak Arsenal team. You could say that they have very little depth, but then again it might have just been an off day.
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:02Fair analysis to be honest, I havent seen arsenal dominated like that in ages, although I dont think our title form will be derailed too much. The tottenham defeat didnt affect our league form.
Both our both full backs were awful today. If I was Ahmed I’d be hoping Wenger plays him more aswel.
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:05I have to say well done Man Utd, To outclass the opposition especially A**nel makes its great to be a yiddo this season. So the Gooners last 2 cup defeats have yielded 9 goals against, I think it actually shows that they are not as good as everyone makes out, yes you can see they are in with a shout in the Premiership but i am so sure that they wont win it. That means another season without any silverware. What makes it better is that they whenever they have played well have taunted fans and players and i believe that this is KARMA and what goes around come around.
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:05Well done Man U and i can see you going on next week of the champions league, You deserve not just to be beaten but to be whooped.
YID army
Utsav – yup, good weekend, eh?
Andrei, their second string was injured along with a couple of key first-team players, so you could say that it was a bit similar to the injury situation United had at the start of the season.
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:06I was referring to Troare in that lasdt bit, oops!
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:06MDH, you have seen them dominated like that for ages, i think you seem to forget 5-1 at the lane, but i guess you only watch your own team, real fan ??
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:07No starting place for, Ronaldo,Tevez,Scholes,Giggs,Neville,Hargreaves. With a large amount of second string players, Arsenal were completely humilated from start to finish.
So much about Ronaldo being United’s one man team, quite cleary Adebayour is more important for Arsenal. It should have been 8 or 9.
For the second time this season, Anderson totally outclassed Fabregas. Apart from Fabregas’ early season form, what has he actually done?
One thing for sure, there isn’t a United fan who would dream about swapping Anderson with Fabregas. Its only a matter of time till we return to our rightful place at the top as we are clearly the best team in the league.
With our best players included, I’m sure when Arsenal come to Old Trafford again in the league, the scoreline will be even greater!
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:27awesome, absolutely awesome!
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:44it was absolutely sensational.and without our top scorer too.ronaldo, who needs him ehh?
February 16th, 2008 @ 20:53Fantastic performance. Anderson and Carrick were superb. Will it be Hargreaves and Scholes against Lyon?
As well as Fletcher played, I reckon Fergie might just think about bringing Ronaldo back for Europe:)
February 16th, 2008 @ 21:04Scholes definitely, don’t know about Hargo although it would make sense to play him considering that United have Newcastle away next weekend so squad rotation will definitely happen, good to see that United have that depth in central midfield now.
Basically, Fergie will replace the midfield (Ronaldo, Hargo, Scholes, Giggs) and bring in Tevez to support Rooney. Nani’s probably earned a starting role for the Newcastle game, mind you, his performance was really that good and he should get the easier games this season.
February 16th, 2008 @ 22:10No Yiddo, I actually saw you beat us 5-1, I even mentioned it on the comment duh. And as much as youd like to think it, it wasnt a domination, our defence just happened to have an off day and you got lucky. Bar the goals no-one would have been able to tell who the better team was. Where as Man U controlled the game completely today and Id admit they outplayed us, something that your never going to see as a Spurs fan.
How would forgetting a loss in a carling cup semi final matter anyway? Youv got to remember Arsenal fans have more important things to think about. The sort of things you fantasized about all summer long.
February 16th, 2008 @ 22:11Anderson is a Brazilian product, he even outclassed the so-called great Steve Gerrad, and he is yet to outclass other so-called best midfielders of this world.
February 16th, 2008 @ 23:04F**ckall game. Its over anyway…………
February 17th, 2008 @ 03:36everybody knows that giggs neville both washed up we lost today because we had eboue a natural back and hleb also hurt gilberto whose crap and just fabby eduardo and gallas and toure was just back from ghana whole world knows that man u should wipe us out all the time every arsenal fan knows we’re over achieving i mean look at united anderson nani and hargreaves god how much did they spend? but it was a choice awful choice champs league or FA Cup? UEFA Champs League my choice
February 17th, 2008 @ 03:51USA – Arsenal, huh?
Ahmed, I found that the teams were pretty evenly balanced on paper. What happened on the field is a different story. That was the point I was tryin to make.
Oh and it would make no sense to bring Scholes back in the squad. Not with Anderson in the form he is having. He is schooling just about every midfielder in the Premier League, Scholes included. I have to laud Ferguson on this signing.
MDH, Traore was pretty good.
February 17th, 2008 @ 04:47Both teams had players missing.Neville, giggs, scholes, tevez, hargreaves and ofcourse ronaldo for united. So I think its wrong to say arsenal were understrength and manutd werent, because united were also.We didnt have our Captain! …Gallas proved what an idiot he was, he was beaten for the goals by fletcher.he looked like a derby player…Rooney run him ragged the whole game and him kicking out at nani in the end was just pathetic. Talking of nani…he was brilliant today. This is the first time we saw the type of player he could become. The crosses were fantastic, and he should always take our corners and he was so strong on the ball Boy becomes a man maybe?Anderson is just unbelievable.I think hes one of the fastest players ive ever seen. That discussion on whos better between him and fabregas?(did he play or what?).no contest.Carrick looked world-class.The whole team did.if Fletcher could play like this all the time….For wednesday I strongly oppose to bringing back scholes and giggs.ANDERSON CANT BE LEFT OUT.he is our best midfielder.I think if fergie didnt leave him out for the sake of it against bolton, west ham and spurs away we could have been top.The quicker he becomes an automatic starter the easier winning the league will become. He is fantastic.I thought rooney always needed a partner but yesterday he lead the line fantastically.Good to see saha back.
February 17th, 2008 @ 09:33one win and u people r so hopelessly over the moon….this win will almost certainly have no impact whatsoever on the title race this season….sure it was a real poor match by gunner standards…whoever was on the pitch…..but to say that anderson is the best midfielder in the premiership(based on a couple of matches)doesnt reflect a lot of insight…..
the comparison manures cry out again n again-fab vs anderson…..it is so redundant….im pretty sure everyone knows there is no comparison at all…however u just hope to make a comparison by saying he is better….fab just had a bad game and it was not andersons or carricks domination that made it bad….his passes were just goin short n that cost his allaround game…..
manure…..i dont see u winning the f a cup….if u do,well n good….but we gunners are after bigger fish….
February 17th, 2008 @ 09:51Two best points for me:
Fletcher having Frabregas, “the finest footballer in the Europe” in his pocket for the full 90 minutes, and still finding time to go froward and score twice.
“The best footballing team in the World” being completely outclassed in every department and utterly embarassed.
Nani, Anderson, Carrick and Rooneys performances were nice too
February 17th, 2008 @ 09:55@ karna
“manure…..i dont see u winning the f a cup….if u do,well n good….but we gunners are after bigger fish….”
How convenient, after you loose to Manchester United the FA CUP is no longer a priority. Maybe if you get knocked out by AC Milan Champions league wont be either? Always next year isn’t there?
“one win and u people r so hopelessly over the moon….”
I am ready to bet my left nut that had you beaten us, youd have been over Saturn so to speak barking on about God knows what. We have cause to be over the moon, we have dropped 5 point in our previous 2 games and this was our chance to pull Arsenal back to reality. May I add, I think we did.
About Fabregas V Anderson, calling him the best in the premiership may be immature but not totally incorrect. Each time he has been called to take charge of a big game he has come out ontop no questions asked. And lest you forget, the reason we never missed Scholes was because he more than filled up for his absence, not something anyone else can do.
The only thing stopping him from being officially acknowledged superior to ‘Fab’ Fabregas is the opportunity to play a run of matches and show his consistency.
PS: You guys had ZERO CORNERS
February 17th, 2008 @ 10:13Yeah, we lost, it was a disgrace, our performance was a disgrace, everything related to us was a disgrace yesterday. I sure didnt expect us to win, but I sure didnt expect to see such a disgraceful performance. Like I said earlier, its over. And thank God for that…….
February 17th, 2008 @ 11:45Second time Arsenal have fell short when resting key players. As for us even when leaving Ronaldo, Tevez, Scholes and Giggs out we can still produce magical, flowing football. Rooney is no doubt the key player. Ronaldo on form can win games single handedly, but when Rooney is on form with his runs and the quality of his link up play he can set the whole team on fire.
Special mention also for Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Nani and our peerless defence.
Also I’m surprised we do not use Park more now he has recovered from his injuries. He has a decent cross, a lot of energy, a great work rate, and a lot of experience especially of European football. If Giggs is not firing we should definitely give Park a few chances.
February 17th, 2008 @ 13:00And ali if i remember right they had 0 shots on target as well…
quirkey 0 corners
0 shots on target
van der saar could well have brought his laptop and played a few games on it
February 17th, 2008 @ 15:15we may ave’ lost in the F.A cup, but we have got bigger fish to fry (like a.c milan, the team u lost 2 last season). and united better by a house, because their second, and not moving anytime soon.
February 17th, 2008 @ 15:51I cant wait to see Arsenal get knocked the fuck out by kaka and co.They think because they win premier league clubs with their “football” that their gonna beat milan?!hahahaha funny.Milan dont give a fuck about nothing gattuso will eat up fibreglass I mean hey… if fletcher can?
February 17th, 2008 @ 17:03And this about the arsenal youngsters.fuck em!united have better ronaldo, rooney, anderson, nani, tevez. All big game players and much more potential and we have welbeck soon to be unleashed!Hehe!
February 17th, 2008 @ 17:40That game was just embarrassing for the Scum. As a Spurs fan it reminded me of the 5-1 thrashing, it was beautiful. The scum fans said they didn’t care about the Carling, now they don’t care about the FA, what happens when they lose to Milan, will you make excuses for that as well?
February 17th, 2008 @ 19:35How great is it that Arsenal won’t be playing at Wembley for anything that matters this year? I think it’s great. I told my Scum friends that you won’t, now they are saying, we’ll win the CL! Give me a break, even if they beat Milan they won’t win, Barcelona/Man U/Chelsea/Inter are all better than the Scum. Sure you will probably win the league, because that will be all you have to focus on!
February 17th, 2008 @ 19:39Spurs fans?haha u wont win shit!
February 17th, 2008 @ 20:03I watched the match, hoping the Chels could make up points in the next week as Rooney, Fab, Nani etc all experienced radioactive poisoning and broken legs but alas, it was not to be…
I saw a prediction for a Manc here for a 3-0 home side victory. Thought it was just another idiot spouting off nonsense, but who knew he/she would be right?
Shocking display. Arsenal NEVER, during 90 minutes, showed any degree of their usual footballing style. United thoroughly dominated them in every facet of the match.
I don’t think this will have any effect on the title race; both teams are made of professionals and will focus on the next game at hand.
Arsenal played a weak lineup compared to United’s, but 4-0 should never be the result.
My Chels is all but out of it now though; they almsot need all 36 points left avaialble to win, coupled with Manc and Gooner collapses to have a serious chance. United is the strongest of the squads this season, but they haven’t been able to make up ground. Should be a good finish to the season. I hate both Gunners and Mancs, but I’ll resepct the hell out of whomever wins the league, ebcause this year was tough as hell.
February 17th, 2008 @ 20:05Clive, we have a better chance than the Scum do, we are at least in a Cup Final!
February 17th, 2008 @ 20:30Brian, Man Utd’s fielded team was not much stronger than Arsenal’s. According to ESPN, the fielded teams’ cumulative Premier League appearances were as follows:
Starting line up: Arsenal – 121(30); Man Utd 175(31)
February 17th, 2008 @ 23:12Including substitutes: Arsenal – 176(32); Man Utd 193(40)
Including substitutes, w/o GK: Arsenal 172(32); Man Utd 171(40)
More talented is what I mean, Andrei. Obviously, by that score line, some of the Gooner youth can be considered overrated.
February 17th, 2008 @ 23:48Finally recovered from the thrashing. It was bad and every opposition player was better than ours. Bad again. Big deal anyway. Not too bothered about the result but the scoreline was undigestable. But we have more to play for and all Manure fans will be sure that our form will derail in the league. Maybe thats why Ferguson , when he was asked the same replied with a pathetic “I hope so too”.
February 18th, 2008 @ 06:48what is the mark of champions – going up and fighting to win every game or accepting defeat even before the game?
Arsenal may win this year’s Premier League, but the way the fans went into this game saying that they didn’t care if they lost was pathetic. Pragmatic perhaps, but pathetic.
Of course, if I was an Arsenal fan I’d take two league defeats against Spurs AND United as long as I got the title.
However, I’d still go into games expecting to win, because my team is good enough.
Funnily, Arsenal fans didn’t think so.
I doubt that this will impact the title race, but Chelsea will want 2nd place at least and they’ll be much closer to it if they beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. After that, United have to beat Arsenal at Old Trafford and it’s game on again.
Wish we weren’t traveling to Stamford Bridge ourselves though…
February 18th, 2008 @ 08:27…which they are, Brian
February 18th, 2008 @ 08:29Brilliant performance!!!
Wonderful team effort. But wow! THAT BOY ANDERSON!!!
The only thing that baffles me is:
February 18th, 2008 @ 09:53For such an important game, why did Wenger decide to leave Cesc Fabregas out of the team on Saturday?
Oh yeah, before I forget…
February 18th, 2008 @ 10:01This “Arsenal’s beatiful football” thing – what was so beautiful on Saturday?
Freetown Sierra Leone 18-02-08
February 18th, 2008 @ 10:47Fergusion,
Thank you very much for making me proud of my team MAN. UNITED for gunning down the guuners in saturday’s game.
I was so happy and i dont even know how to express my happiness.
Ferggie, please keep on setting the same team for ARSENAL in particular. BRAVO, BRAVO MAU. UNITED. Please reply.
Thank you.
Bash.
Manure sounds like the spuds when they beat our reserve team in a low priority competition. 5 points clear is what matters.
It is perfectly set up for the league game at Old Trafford. Probably part of Wengers plan. Make Manure even more arrogant before that match and we will win the Premiership there again.
February 18th, 2008 @ 13:25Tony, that is so arrogant, just like Arsene. The FA Cup is low priority? That makes no sense, every team wants to win the FA Cup. Maybe there is no sense to win the English Cup when no one on your squad is English! Will the Champions League not matter when you lose….whether to AC Milan, or someone else? I’m glad my Spurs go into every match to win not to lose.
Also, why would you want Man U confident? They were on following a draw to Spurs, and a home loss to Man City. Arsene should have wanted to bury their confidence, not ignite it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Scum blow the rest of their league lead, then what would your excuse be?
February 18th, 2008 @ 15:33Spurs go into every match to win not to lose eh? If so why do they not win very often? You might of done us in the shit cup but its still well over 8 years since you were able to get the better of us in the league. Spurs are an average cup team at best. 47 years without a league title proves that. You all predicted that you would finish in the Champions league places and easily above Arsenal. That prediction looks pretty ridiculous when you look at the 31 point gap. We were completely outplayed by United last saturday and any genuine football fan would have to say fair play for their performance. Just like your laughable predictions at the start of the season you will also be totally wrong about “The Scum” blowing their lead. Oh one more thing…..Thanks for the 6 points!
February 18th, 2008 @ 18:57I hate to admit it, but days like these really make me get much more respect for Liverpool and their supporters. At least they don’t make excuses and whinge afterwards like Arsene and his following…
February 19th, 2008 @ 09:15If this cup was so un-important, why the fuck were you still in it?
If this cup was so un-important, why did Wenger not rest your star player, Fabregas?
If this cup was so un-important, why did he not rest Adebayor as apposed to bringing him on?
That’s just arrogant bullshit, and you know it.
I think he underestmated United after their draw and un-inspired loss to City.
Again, his arrogance paid the price, just like against Spurs. Of course all the cups are important to Arsenal, they have (lotsa) bills to pay.
I wonder what you guys will say after we’ve overtaken you lot in the league? “Oh, the piss league is not important, we’re going for bigger fish”.
Yeah right…sore losers!
ok guys, knock it off.
arsenal prioritised before the start – necessary but also not the measure of a truly great side (in the sense that a ‘truly great side’ would be strong enough to fight on all fronts). They also had injuries and never got out of the blocks mentally, which sucks but that’s how it was.
Arsenal lost, United go on to face Portsmouth and the bigger game, for both teams, is tomorrow.
Here’s to hoping that both Milan teams win
It’s not going to matter unless they get beaten like that in the league as well, and / or their injury problems get worse.
February 19th, 2008 @ 10:39Handbags Karl handbags! LOL I bet you’re not even from Manchester
February 19th, 2008 @ 19:36When you think of Man Utd power you have to consider the four engine, Anderson. He is a tough guy, just ask Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal he can tell you. Tough, faster with strong mentality. Only the final finishing touches let him down but he can disappoint the opponents though.
November 21st, 2008 @ 13:19united had it all. well done man Utd. You dominated from the kick off till the final whistle.
November 21st, 2008 @ 14:05
