Carling Cup Manchester derby – United 4, Tevez 3

We all know very well what happened at the City of filthy rich Sheikh Stadium City of Manchester Stadium in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final between Manchester City and Manchester United. City won 2-1 and Carlos Tevez scored both the goals.

More recently, in the return leg of the semi-final at Old Trafford, United beat their local rivals 3-1 to go through to the final with the aggregate score of 4-3 (United will play Aston Villa).

Note: Tevez was the only goal scorer for City in the second leg as well.

Nevertheless, it was another interesting chapter in City’s development story. United just about shaded past City over the two weeks and it is all because of Tevez. City are missing a couple of their players and their makeshift defense kind of ran out of energy and they could not contain United over the two legs. It was Wayne Rooney again making the difference.

It was interesting to see the continuous booing of Tevez, although it was not at all surprising. But when a team boos a former player on their return is the kind of thing that Spurs do; for example, Dimitar Berbatov. Kind of shows how nervous United fans are about City and what the future may hold.

On the other hand, Tevez has wound up the fans with the comments he had made when he was leaving Old Trafford. They have been negative of, particularly, Alex Ferguson and on top of that, his celebration that involved Gary Neville. He will probably forever be booed at Old Trafford now.
