"who had achieved so much at cash-strapped Fulham, was shown the door after achieving so much with the club".

This is the calibre of writing and informed comment I have come to expect from this "blog". Keep it up. I'm only here for the potshots. Muscleheads.

I don't think it's becoming like American sports at all. American sports are the closest thing that exists to a socialist system: from each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Hence salary caps, drafts, no relegation or promotion (in fact, with the exception of baseball, no true lower divisions). Yes, sports franchises in the US are governed by the bottom line, and will even move cities in order to make profits (with some notable exceptions like the Chicago teams), because of the protectionism that exists there are franchises that go eons without winning and owners who seem to care very little if teams win or not - as opposed to Europe, and football specifically, which is a completely capitalist system and it is purely survival of the fittest, meaning that sustained success (a term relative to each club) is imperative for survival.

I also don't think it's "worse" or "better". These are also relative terms. In my opinion it is only different. Major clubs and major football leagues are global phenomena now. For people who were used to how things used to be, for example English fans only caring about English teams and the English leagues, maybe nostalgia kicks in and they think things are worse. But ask a Chinese football fan if he thinks things are worse. And I say this from the perspective of someone who lives not 2 km from the stadium of the team I support.

I think that all the boards want the money from the new tv deal and obviously didn't have enough faith in their previous managers to keep them up.

That's tda, not me.

But yea Ed, you're right, it's going to get worse.

I'm also sure that the media has a role to play in this - speculation shapes fan opinion, and like that comment on nufcblog said, if all the hacks say one manager / player is bad, pretty soon that's the tune everyone's going to be singing. The manager's / player's confidence is shot and they're no good anymore.

It's a tough world, made tougher because of money.

Oh well...

Ahmed - hate to say this - but things will probably get worse.
The pressure on managers to produce - now there is so much global TV money there for the clubs - will only intensify.
It's becoming very like the American sports scene - where it's all about the money.
