Man Utd’s David Moyes to be Replaced by Antonio Conte?
In a bizarre report, Italian publication ‘TuttoSport’ claim that David Moyes’ tenure at Man Utd could be coming to a swift end, with Juventus boss Antonio Conte linked with replacing the Scot at the end of the season.
Moyes, who joined the Champions last summer on a six year deal, has endured a torrid time so far as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.
Languishing in seventh place in the league, having lost the last two home matches at Old Trafford for the first time in ten years; Utd’s title bid, and indeed their top-four aspirations are currently in serious doubt.
Conte has been with Serie A giants Juventus since 2011, and despite a match-fixing ban in 2012, has had a highly successful reign in Turin so far.
Currently Italian champions, Juve have a five point lead over Roma at the top of this season’s Serie A, and are still going strong in the Italian Cup.
His biggest failure arguably arrived this month however, as his side failed to make it through to the last 16 of the Champions League after losing to Galatasaray in the final Group B fixture.
This has not perturbed those in power at Juve however, who seem firmly behind their manager, despite the report linking United and French side Monaco to their former player and captain.
Regardless of the obvious issues currently surrounding Old Trafford, there really cannot be any serious threat to David Moyes job. The Italian report is surely wide of the mark, and just ‘shot-in-the-dark’ speculation.
If Moyes is not given at least two seasons of relative safety, then the club would totally undermine their proud managerial precedent, typified by the 27 year reign of Sir Alex Ferguson; who reportedly endorsed the former Everton boss upon his retirement last summer.
Moyes may have overseen some poor results, and struggled to get his team playing to the standard to which the Utd fans are accustomed; but this must be seen as a transitional period for the club, due to the stunning departure of Sir Alex, which dramatically effected the entire club, let alone the Premier League.
What do you think? Moyes safe in the job? Let me know in the comments below…
