Manchester United defender, Marcos Rojo has claimed that Louis Van Gaal’s face is similar to that of a bulldog and that his strong personality is scary at first.

‘He has a bulldog face, but he is great guy,’ Rojo said.

‘He’s scary at first, but when you get to know him and relate to him on daily basis, you get along. But only if you listen to him.

‘He has a really strong personality, but he is a great person. He listens to us, and even speaks a little bit of Spanish, so he always takes me to his office for a pep talk.’

The Argentine however rubbished claims that Van Gaal treats South Americans differently. Earlier in the summer, when Rafael was mistreated and sold, there were rumours that Van Gaal is not a fan of Brazilians. But Rojo says that he has never seen any partiality or bias from the Dutchman.

‘The fact that he holds a bad relationship with South American player is just a feeling [opinion],’ Rojo added.

‘I’ve been there with [Antonio] Valencia, [Radamel] Falcao, Angel [Di Maria] and he treated us all the same, he never treated us differently.

‘Maybe because of his [poor] relationship with Roman [Riquelme] or with Angel leaving, some people got the wrong idea, but he treats us all the same. He is a great person and makes no differences between Europeans and South Americans.’

The Argentine defender was thought to be struggling under Van Gaal, after he was put up for sale in the summer and was fined £140,000, for turning up late to the pre-season tour.

Despite offers from the likes of Valencia, Rojo has decided to stay put and fight for his place under Van Gaal.

Rojo’s comments backing his manager has come at a good time, especially now that Van Gaal is supposedly faced with a dressing room mutiny.

According to reports, Manchester United players are unhappy about his strict training regime and abrasive methods.
