Mamadou Sakho missed Liverpool’s travel to Southampton last weekend due to a hip injury and is certain to miss tonight’s clash against Besiktas.

However the Liverpool defender has confirmed that he will be back in training this Saturday, which puts him in contention to face City at Anfield this Sunday.

The powerful French international has been key to Liverpool’s resurgence and has been a rock for Brendan Rodgers at the back. His defensive organisation and flawless reading of the game has been key to Liverpool racking up clean sheets back to back in several games over the last couple of months.

Initially out of the team to accommodate new signing Dejan Lovren, the former PSG man has won his place after a few disastrous performances from Lovren. Sakho has been a key player at Anfield this season and when Liverpool welcome the Champions on Sunday, in a clash which could have a huge say in the title race as well as the top four, they will be hoping to have their best centre back available.

Sakho reached out to the fans though his Twitter account this morning and confirmed that he will join his teammates in training on Saturday.
