Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has defended Marouane Fellaini by pulling a reporter’s hair in the aftermath of his team’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the Premier League.

During the first half, Fellaini was involved at the heart of an aggressive exchange at Old Trafford, when he appeared to have lashed out his elbow at Leicester defender Robert Huth.

The former Chelsea defender was seen grabbing Fellaini’s hair that brought out an instinctive and aggressive reaction from the Belgian midfielder.

When Van Gaal was asked to comment on the incident he asked the reported instead how he would feel in such a situation before pulling on his hair. Check the video below:

The Dutchman then went on to make one of the outrageous comment of the year, after saying pulling one’s hair is allowed only in certain situations.

“Every human being who is grabbed by the hair, only with sex masochism, then it is allowed but not in other situations. They did it. They did it several times I think,” said Van Gaal.

“Huth was the guy who grabbed the hair of Fellaini. I think the reaction of Fellaini is like a human being.”

Van Gaal has admitted that the making into Champions League for next season could out of the club’s reach, before conceding mathematically his side are still not out yet.

With City suffering a 4-2 defeat against Southampton, United have a chance to eclipse their derby rivals, who still have to face Arsenal in the Premier League.

United are four points behind City, having played a game less, and should other results go in their favour, the Red Devils have an outside chance of making into the top four.
