Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku is focused on the present at Everton but considers his future lies with Chelsea only.

Lukaku was heavily praised by manager Jose Mourinho in the summer and was expected to get regular chances at the Bridge this season, having successfully proven himself at this level of football last season with West Bromwich Albion, where he scored 17 league goals.

However, Mourinho sees Lukaku now as a player for the future and wants the Belgian to continue his progress at Everton. Chelsea added Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o in the summer while wanted to offload Demba Ba elsewhere. But, having seen the deal didn’t materialize for the Senegal international, young Lukaku was sent on a season-long-loan instead to Everton.

The 20-year-old didn’t take much time to settle down at his new club and marked his Toffees debut with the winning goal in a dramatic 3-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday. The youngster wants to use his time as Goodison as another springboard towards making his mark as one of the very best at the highest level. He said:

“My aim is to go down as one of the greatest. That’s why I’m at Everton. I’m here to help the team, the team is here to help me,”

“Everton were that step I needed. As a team they are always close to the top four and get to cup finals. That was really interesting for me,”

“Every time I played against them I had difficult games so I wanted to play in that team. After the top teams I think they are the best team in the league.

“At my age the most important thing is to play and develop. Everton gave me the opportunity so I’m very happy to be here. Chelsea is the future.”
