Liverpool’s Summer 2012 Transfer Targets

Liverpool’s Summer 2012 Transfer Targets

Domestically, Liverpool have had a strange season. Their league form has been nothing short of terrible, however, their performances in the cups have been extremely impressive.

Next season Dalglish (providing he remains in charge) will no doubt look to improve the core of the Liverpool team, allowing them to challenge for a top four position.

Liverpool’s Transfer Targets

Seydou Keita – Midfielder – Barcelona

Liverpool are keen on Barcelona’s Seydou Keita. The £2m-rated midfielder, 32, who appeared for Mali in the African Nations Cup, has been frozen out at the Nou Camp. However, the 32-year-old could be about to snub the Anfield side and agree to a switch to AC Milan.

Rasmus Elm – Midfielder – AZ Alkmaar

Liverpool are preparing a summer move for AZ Alkmaar’s 24-year-old Swede Rasmus Elm, after reportedly sending their top scout to watch him in action for the Dutch side. According to the Sun, the two involved sides have agreed a £8m fee.

Luuk De Jong – Striker – FC Twente

Liverpool are chasing £12m-rated striker Luuk de Jong, who has scored 30 goals for FC Twente this season. But the Anfield club face competition for the 21-year-old’s signature from 15 other clubs. The Anfield club will have to find at least £12.5m if they are serious about signing the Dutch international striker

Younes Belhanda – Attacking Midfielder/ Winger – Montpellier

Liverpool have joined Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Montpellier winger Younes Belhanda, 22. According to the Metro.

Olivier Giroud – Striker – Montpellier

The Reds have also joined the list of clubs showing interest in Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, 25, with manager Kenny Dalglish attending the French club’s win at Toulouse on Friday. Arsene Wenger is also believed to be keen on signing him for the Gunners.

Clint Dempsey – Attacking Midfielder – Fulham

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Fulham forward Clint Dempsey. The American has had a stunning season at Craven Cottage, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. Liverpool lead a host of clubs desperate to snap-up the 29-year-old, including, you guessed it, Arsenal.

Gaston Ramirez – Attacking Midfielder – Bologna

Liverpool have lodged a £16m bid for Bologna’s 21-year-old midfielder Gaston Ramirez, according to reports in Italy.

Pablo Armero – Defender – Udinese

Liverpool are considering a move for Udinese star Pablo Armero. The 25-year-old is valued at around £5.5million and can play left midfield or left-back.

Fernando Llorente – Striker – Athletic Bilbao

Liverpool are continuing their hunt for firepower – with Spain striker Fernando Llorente a possible target. Kop boss Kenny Dalglish continues to monitor several options as Andy Carroll struggles to settle.

Llorente – who has seven goals in 20 games for Spain and is likely to feature at Euro 2012 – is a long term target of both Tottenham and Liverpool. But both clubs will not be able to compete with the £200,000-a-week salary that other top clubs in Europe are prepared to offer the 27-year-old.

Roberto Soldado – Striker – Valencia

Strikers are expected to top Dalglish’s shopping list this summer. Liverpool’s anemic attack has left King Kenny scratching his head. Valencia’s Roberto Soldado is a prolific striker in La Liga having netted 27 times across all competitions for Spain’s third-place team. The Metro have suggested Liverpool may consider a move for the striker.

Luc Castaignos – Striker – Inter Milan

Liverpool are understood to be interested in Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos – a transfer target for Merseyside rivals Everton – on a loan deal.

Nolito – Striker/ Winger – Benfica

Liverpool are also considering a move for 25-year-old Benfica midfielder Nolito, previously with Barcelona. Reports in Portugal say Benfica would consider offers in the region of £15m.

Moussa Dembele – Striker – Fulham

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Fulham forward Moussa Dembele with a view to a summer transfer, as they look to bolster their goal-shy front line.

Nigel De Jong – Defensive Midfielder – Manchester City

Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester City’s tough-tackling Netherlands international Nigel de Jong.

Chelsea's Summer 2012 Transfer Targets
The History of Football Boots: From Protective Footwear to Performance Aid

  1. Considering the defeat in the FA Cup,wholesale changes are needed, players like Henderson,Spearing need to be sold,Adam as well bring back Aquilani, get some top talent, even if it means payin higher wages,we hav dead beats earnin big wages like Adam who are not worth those sums of cash………..KK its make or break time for u&LFC,its either next season we get top players or face another miserable season……which the fans, owners will not be happy to say the least……the balls in your court now……so show us what you got

  3. We have no chance with most of these players. Whilst the brand Liverpool maybe able to attract few UK players without Champ’s League football not going to happen with Euro players. Imagine just won French league with Montpellier & now scap for top 10 with Pool. Plus where is the cash coming from ? NESV have taken £50m hit last year & can’t see them giving Kenny another £50-100m. We have squad to heavy with Champ’s League wages with Aqua & Cole returning. All very depressing ..

  5. In my observation, KD should play Carragher in the midfield instead of spearing. I see Carragher better playing in the midfield, a formation we used when Liverpool beat MU 2-1 last Jan.

Spearing is not good enough playing for Liverpool and I totally agree he is 200% at fault for both.

Liverpool must buy :- Goalkeeper – Hennessey,Luuk De Jong and Gaston Ramirez, Defender – Adil Rami and Winger – Afellay and Offload (Reina, Downing, Henderson, Adam, Aurelio and Spearing)

  6. We are still suffering the effects of rafa and roys shambolic last 2 years where players left in their droves or were driven out or demotivated. People dont realise what a horrific mess Kenny has inherited, i said recently that getting to two finals with this squad is actually quite a remarkable achievement considering the lack of strength in depth.

  7. * Must trim wage bill in order to facilitate better players arriving – KUyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Aqualani, Cole, Adam for starters. £300K A WEEK WASTED EASY.
    * Do not use opta stats ever again to buy players. Use instinct by watching players.
    * If it isn’t working, change the tactics. We all get things wrong in life, so to change is not embarrassing. Carroll should have been on after 25 minutes at most.Suarez was isolated and Gerrard was babysitting Spearing.

Gerrard needs to get forward more. He can not if he doesn’t have a quality partner in central midfield. We must buy quality here. We have gone from Mascherano and Alonso to, well you know who – Henderson, Spearing and Charlie Adam. If you watch La liga then you will, like me, clearly know that we need Javi Martinez of Atletico Madrid. This will give Gerrard the reassurance to attack more.
We need quality creative players – Granero, Ramirez, Hulk, Eriksen, Canales, Adam Johnson. Vargas. I’m sure we can spend the £300k a week on some of these players.
We need another striker to help carroll’s introduction to premier league football, which is what it is for him. Only 11 games for newcastle and then thrust into our team. Going to take time. He is a good striker. you can see that . Was our best player on Sat against Chelsea and he played only 30mins. We need a finisher. Higuain doesn’t play much for Real Madrid. Quite unlikely we could get him though. Luuk de jong has scored a hatful of goals. Try him. Lowish fee

  8. Don’t usual comment on these blogs that i read but what the hell. Yes we have had a s*** season and thankfully it will be all over in a couple games. What i have seen is a bunch of guys that have been trying too hard to please. What we should be doing is relaxing and not getting on the backs of these young players. Our worst piece of luck this season was losing Lucus. There was a time when everyone was slating him and look how he has come on. Carroll, Downing and Henderson are all good players that haven’t been feeling the love from people just like you guys. I would find it very difficult to relax and play my natural game in these circumstances when what feels like everyone is saying I’m not good enough and shouldn’t be here. Now yes Spearing did get found out but KD changed things and we played better. Carroll was a beast that couldn’t be contained Henerson showed sparks of what he can do and his desire was obvious to see. I personally don’t think we need to buy when we have so much talent to come up to the first team. But i do think you all need to stop giving the youngsters in the team at the moment a hard time cause it doesn’t help them or the others about to breakthrough and don’t we all want the best for Liverpool fc. I do.

    • Hooray red specks, finally someone who knows what they are talking about.
Our third tier players are relatively good, hendo, spearing, jonjo, coates, flano, the problem comes from treating them as regular first team players and putting too many on in the same game in stead of developing them as part of an experienced squad.
Personally I would not get rid of anyone, even Dirk, as we will need them for the Europa. We just need to get a few top class first team reinforcements and let competition for place take effect.
We are not far away, but a bit more class and better coaching will make a difference. Just look at what Man U have done with an average side.
      1st tier
Kelly – Agger – Skrtyl Enrigue
      Johnson -Gerard – Bellamy
      Suarez – Carrol
      2nd tier
      Doni – Kuyt – Downing – Maxi – Carragher – Adam
      3rd tier
Hendo – Spearing – Flano -Coates -sterling

  9. Relax!!!! You all think U know how Liverpool team should play, who is good enough and who isn’t..
Ever heard of the saying ‘patience is a virtue’, give all the new signings next season and you’ll all be eating humble pie… Example ‘Lucus’…’Skirtel’ of late ‘Caroll’
    Have faith…
    In Kenny we trust :)))))))))

    • Very true we dont need a big overhaul may be kenny got its wrong with spearing but we needed a defensive midfielder and with lucas not available kenny had to got with spearing …..hendo is not bad lad has played out of position all season but whenever he has played in the middle he has looked a different player……in last few games I have seen shelvey growing ….I dont think we must offload kuyt and maxi…..since also r playing in europa league next season……in defence we have robinson and falagan ….kelly ….coates and wilson…..doni looked good in fulham game….we need two quality additions in midfield if aqualani is back we will be good with one right winger and another versatile midfield player….lucas will be back… attack we need is a striker with speed ……remember our young left back insua how we were always critical Of him see him play now …..

  10. when jay spearing out and replace andy carroll liverpool was control the game and andy carroll get fantastic goal but liverpool still goal-shy in front of goal and unlucky this season because hit woodwork 31 this season……and you was look reina was awful this season and i think that way reina must leave this season and skrtel also awful this season and glen johnson ready to be replace by kelly but kelly always injured this season….at midfielder i heard that liverpool was agree to signing rasmus elm and he will replace spearing will liverpool should find new winger like dempsey for replace henderson and new left winger such as belhanda while attacking midfielder you must put new kaka from uruguay gaston ramirez and i heard that he was agreed to join liverpool for 16.2m and lastly is striker is luuk de jong for fc twente and i know that liverpool should get new goalkeeper like hugo lloris because lyon now way to not promote to champions league and liverpool can easy to get this keeper….but i don’t thing liverpool will buy new goalkeeper

  11. We should purchase Llorente to help Carroll understand where a striker with his build should position himself at certain times in a match.

I’m also surprised that this article does not mention Sigurdsson or Sessegnon because I’d try and pick at least one of these. I know Suarez was bought for creativity but what if he lets us down again for a duration next season?

Players to say thank you and goodbye in July:

Dirk Kuyt (Great servant and Everton will be glad to see the back of him.)
Maxi (You could question if he ever really got the time on the pitch that he should of?)
Charlie A (I honestly thought he would be a good signing but he’s just not mobile enough for what we need him to do in the team.)
Downing (Can’t believe we payed this much for a player who can’t put in a quality cross in or does not have the self confidence to take the back line on with his pace!)

    Please KD blood in:
Sterling: He played first team at QPR can we see next season more than 5-15 mins of him on the pitch I think he is our version of Ars’s Chamblain.

Finally, Can the owners please be up front during the Summer and tell us what the plans are for Anfield or a new stadium…It’s time we were told!
We need the revenue and I would like a better chance an watching my team at the weekends.

  12. Henderson has not played a enough games in centre midfield this season,in the final he did well when spearing went off and carrol came on. Next season henderson with lucas in centre mid will make a good partnership. And the same goes for suarez and carrol. We just need to add two good wingers and at least one striker( pacy striker to complement suarez or carrol ).

  13. Time for yet another clear out, from top to bottom. Kennys’ signings have failed and cost a fortune. Unfortunate, but a manager lives and dies by his tactics and team, therefore Kenny must be first to go. Obviously a new manager will bring new coaches with him, so kennys’ will go too. Where do you start with the players? Well IMO, Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Enrique, Adam, Henderson, Maxi, Kuyt, Spearing and downing, all need to be moved on, Carroll gets a stay of execution, just on 25 minutes of F A final. So that’s 10 players that needs to be replaced, can’t see it happening, but the only way forward. Some impressive players linked with us but how many will want to come, we don’t have money like Chlsea or city to sign mercenaries like they have, nor do we have champions league to tempt them. So i predict mediocrity for us untill Sheik Abdulla Abramovic Mittel buys our club.

  14. Spearing will never be good enough for Liverpool cos hes shite.Shelver is a far superior player in every way.Spearing cant pass, and cant shoot, when i saw he was playing i knew we were fookt

  15. I think we Liverpool fans are too sentimental. Truth be told, the present squad is just not good enough. Spearing, Kelly and Henderson (though he has a capacity to improve) are just not good enough. Then why do we have the least number of black players in the squad? Do we need to mention what a host of black players have brought to their separate teams? Madrid’s Diara and Keita might be needed to provide midfield strength, and allow the midfield accommodate a more creative midfielder without making us vulnerable in defence.

  16. I think they should bring Comolli back to help identify targets. A bit like you said in your original piece.

  17. enough of expensive nd over pricing deals lyk carrol.lfc should now recogniz cost effient yet good players lyk manu does wid signings lyk young nd smalling. i think lfc should target attacking midfielders nd wingers lyk dempsey, taarabt, scott sinclair.wyl i believe dat lfc”s strykers r decnt 4 long run its just dat they had a bad season odemwingie can turn out 2 b a gr8 buy as he is in gud form 4m last 2 seasons nd has won player of d month in bpl varios tyms.nd replacing agger wid collocini, can b an another smart move.

  18. keita, elm, luuk de jong should be the priorities and a snakey move for soldado who is almost certain to reject us but might as well anyway haha

  20. KK must go in the summer along with the mountain of failures he brought to the club, we r fast approaching a mid table team and unless we act fast our cabinet will only be filled with the likes of the carling cup & europa league..R these the type of trophies we want to be winning?? There is only 2 trophies worth anything the champions league and premier league and we r so far behind winning either of those its not funny…The summer will bring the usual crap abt lfc been linked to this player and dat but unless the structure at the club changes its pointless..Saturdays performance showed exactly wat stage lfc r at & our finishing position in the league hammers it home- 30+ points adraft of Utd..So lets stop hanging on to our past and lets start building for the future.

  21. My LFC targets

LB—- Jordi Alba /Baines or Aurelio restored
Enrique is bad defensively + wastes time & space instead of crossing.

DMF — LUCAS but for his cover M’Villa

CMF — Aquilani / Ever Banega

RMF — if KUYT is forced out — ROBBEN/HAZARD /IKER MUNIAN .. there is a long list of tricky wingers there.

  22. It goes to show, many many people on here do not know what they are talking about.
Football is a tough business. If half of you managed a footy club in the prem you would all be sacked in a month. As ur all dilusional. KK did a great job. I think he would have only been in the position for 2 yrs max anyway. There’s nothing wrong with Shelvey, he’s going to be a great player in 3 years time. Henderson i’m not so sure about, these players need a yr to settle. Spearing may have to go along with Adam. but get behind our team. they are trying too hard because of points of view like yours above.
Granted alot of you have hit the nail on the head and agree that we are a work in progress. I love KK always will but the time was right, we cant swap managers half way through a season, it causes to much disruption.
Whoever comes in, get behind them and giv them the chance that the board have. The owners are here to stay. So lets see what happens next season. At least the scum down the east lancs road won nothing this season, we can all at least smile about that and say we won something and the didnt. MR FERGUSON, YOU APPEAR TO BE EMPTY HANDED MATE! I suppose he has an excuse for that too.. LFC till i doe. ynwa

  23. you all know wht………….we should first talk about who the manager should be then the manager will decide who to buy and who to sell………if we bring a good manager then he will definitely use his brain and will buy someone AWESOME……….

    just three players

  24. why is everyone saying enrique in their team hes terrible. liverpool have the worst left sided players in the league

  25. liverpool should sign yohan gourcuff, fernando llorente and clint dempsey to restore their honour.

  26. First of all I dont see what why any manager in their right mind would pick Enrique.. He is a one dimensional player who is crap and needs to be offloaded. Carragher has plenty exp. play him more maybe move agger or skrtel outside left until we purchase a solid LB, of course with johnson on the right

Spearing- haha God bless the boy. obviously lacks the pace, vision, and creativity to play at any professional level and should not ever proceed the reserves ( even better be released)

Henderson- produced absolutely nothing with the amount of time given to him. biggest waste of 20m

Carroll- ehh, not the best we could have done with 35m, but in time he will settle. he showed he can finish towards the end of the campaign, however he’ll need another strike partner.

Once Lucas ( who has been our most solid midfielder since xabi and mascherano) returns to fitness that should clear up some loose kinks..
Gerrard needs to push forward more. as it stands our stongest is

    Bellamy—Lucas — Gerrard—Downing

    Suarez — Carroll

    We must purchase talent

  27. out…

  28. given

    johnson skrtel r.albiol riise

    downing gerrard ballemy

    suarez villa

  29. next season 2012-2013

    subs:doni,coates,flano,gerrard,lucas,bellamy,tello or afellay or ramirez,sinclair,carroll

    brendan rodgers
