Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard for the first time has spoken publicly regarding the ongoing Luis Suarez saga and as expected echoed the symphony of the club’s opinion on the Uruguayan maven.

Luis Suarez moving to Arsenal doesn’t make any sense says Gerrard

While the Reds are enjoying a good summer so far, having made few quality additions with pre-season results going on their way; Suarez saga remains the only albatross on the neck for the club, but there hasn’t been any sign of them wilting under the pressure, despite several top clubs lurking around for the Uruguayan’ signature.

The Reds are steadfast in their decision that the player won’t be sold to any Premier League rival and skipper Gerrard feels the same way too, adding “it doesn’t make any sense at all” irrespective of how much money one puts on the table.

North London giants Arsenal had lodged two mega bids last month, both of which were rejected outright. The Gunners even tried to engineer talks with the player by exploiting his contract, but such attempt has been refuted vehemently by the Merseyside outfit.

Gerrard, who rates Suarez as the “third best player” on the planet at the moment, along with Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, feels the former Ajax star holds the key for Liverpool’s success in the league this season, as there is a genuine buzz around Anfield this time that top four finish might be a realistic ambition.

The England skipper understands that the task would be difficult if the Reds sell Suarez and it would become rather perilously difficult if that transfer involves a rival club in it. Gerrard was quoted as saying by The Guardian:

“Where we sit actually right now, it all depends on what decision Luis Suarez makes in the next few weeks. If we lose him then the challenge becomes even more difficult. It’s that simple. If he goes to Arsenal, it obviously makes our season that little bit more difficult.”

Not only his departure would weaken Liverpool’s strength considerably ahead of next season, it would in turn add massive firepower to their rival clubs – a strategy which should not be entertained and encouraged at any cost, feels the Liverpudlian.

Gerrard however has given respect to Suarez’s vaunting ambition of testing himself at the Champions League, and says he deserves to play either at Barcelona or Real Madrid – the two biggest clubs in the world right now. Meanwhile, it seems like the clause dispute has been sorted internally as Rodgers says Suarez now totally understands the club’s decision not to accept offers for him, and is happy to stay put.
