Liverpool vs Man City: Preview, Team News, and Prediction

Liverpool will take on Manchester City this Sunday in an absolutely colossal Premier League encounter at Anfield.

With five to play, Liverpool top the league with 74 points, but City are right behind them on 70 with two games in hand. This match will surely go a long way in deciding the destination of the Premier League trophy, and we can hope to be in for a cracking game, with both sides in top form.

Liverpool and City have been nothing short of scintillating in front of goal this season, and have scored a staggering 174 between them so far. Both sides are closing in on Chelsea’s goalscoring record of 103 for a season, set in the 2009/10 season, and with the likes of Luis Suarez and Yaya Toure involved, they’re sure to get close.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has attempted to take the pressure off of his players ahead of the game, claiming that City are expected to triumph in the title race due to the lavish amount spent in their pursuit of glory, but also that the Liverpool fans will certainly make it difficult for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this weekend,

“We will unleash the supporters yet again on our opponents,” Rodgers told the BBC. “Anfield is a very, very difficult place for people to come and play now.

“I sense a real nostalgia about the place, a feeling of the old Liverpool. It will help drive us forward, not hold us back.

“It has been a long time since the league title was on Merseyside.

“The most important thing is to get into the Champions League because I know what that brings economically.

“But if we can continue to play well, get a little bit of luck then hopefully we can make their dreams come true. We will give it absolutely everything.”

Team News:

Rodgers must decide whether to reinstate Daniel Agger into the starting XI over Mamadou Sakho, after the Dane missed the 2-1 win over West Ham last time out.

Joe Allen may come back into the side at the expense of Raheem Sterling or Philippe Coutinho to give the Liverpool midfield a bit more solidarity in the face of such dangerous opponents.

For City, Yaya Toure has recovered from a knock sustained against Southampton, and should take his place in the City midfield. Sergio Aguero is in line to make his return to the first team after returning to full training this week.

The Argentine has missed a large chunk of the season, and his return will give City a huge boost going into the final few games of the season.

Prediction: 2-2 A high scoring game, I hope, with honours even come the end of the 90. Title rivals Chelsea will certainly be hoping for a draw here, and I reckon they’ll get their wish.
