Liverpool View: Both Rafa AND the Americans need to GO
Enough is enough. i just can not take any more mediocrity. That last defeat to Barnsley was embarrassing. Credit to Barnsley as they were amazing but the squad is simply under performing and Rafa only seems to be able to motivate them for the European games. I’ve come to accept that Liverpool will never win the Premiership with Rafael Benitez in charge. He does not understand the complexities of the Premiership and his rotation of players means that the team can not settle and achieve any level of consistency.
Here we are again, the leaders out of sight again and only 4th place to play for domestically. And right now I’m really worried about that small club Neverton… they could pip us to 4th place again - that would be even more embarrassing than the Barnsley defeat! It breaks my heart to say this but Rafa simply has to go at the end of the season.
Those American clowns have pissed me off too! Yes they delivered us Torres (thank god) but their conduct has made Newcasle look like a well run club. They do not understand ‘the Liverpool way’ and what the club means to its fans. Shanks will be turning in his grave. They are quite welcome to leave too. I hope Hicks seriously considers any offers by the Dubai group. A new manager and new owners are what is needed to restore Liverpool back to their rightful place at the top of the premiership.

No don’t agree at all. I still believe in Rafa. He’ll never walk alone
The expression ‘fickle fans’ does not even begin to describe some of these so called LFC fans. Rotation was not a problem when we went 14 games unbeaten. It was only a couple of weeks ago that a poll showed that over 90% of fans were supportive of Rafa. In the space of 3 weeks he seems to have lost all his skills and now the ‘majority’ want him out. Imagine what would have happened if Man U fans got rid of Ferguson in his first 5 years when he won nothing as opposed to winning the Champions League and FA Cup like Benitez? By the way even if we swallowed our pride and let that Mourinho in, what is there to guarantee that he will stay for the long term?. He is an egomaniac and will leave for the next big challenge once the owners, whoever they maybe, don’t agree with him. Rafa can walk into any top club yet wants to make Liverpool his home. To all those calling for his head, just be careful with what you wish for because a certain bunch of fans from the North -East got their wish to rid their manager recently and are most likely wishing he was back. Give Rafa at least another season with hopefully DIC the owners and some real cash for players and then if he is still has not performed then even I will join you to ask for his resignation. Sack him now, during a time when the club is in turmoil and we could be regretting it for years.
Total rubbish, for once the players need to stand up and take the blame. You can’t blame Rafa for everything
Sorry but Rafa has a lot to answer for, that was his team out there he bought them and he has the ultimate responsibility for their performance. He brought the keeper in, all of us could tell from his performances that he was not up to it, yet Rafa stuck with it. To go on complaining about not putting chances away is ridiculas, all the strikers were bought by Rafa! This in “Rafa we Trust” is rubbish. People have to take off their rose coloured glasses and see the turmoil that is happening at the club, yes the Americans are to blame for most of it but Rafa cannot keep blaming others for his shortfalls.
The problem is who ever is bought in to replace rafa will need a good 2 seasons to sort out the mess which rafa has bought in.
No disrespect but if rafa does not have the money to buy top class players then its far better to not buy any players for the year and get who you want the following year. Buying players for the sake of it has cost rafa a great deal. Most of his buys have been poor lets not kid ourselves. In addition he has failed to field the right players when needed. Why would you rest someone only for you to draft in a player like kwell? Some of the youngsters should have been given a chance, build them up slowly and let them gain a feel for the first team at the top flight. If you dont do this then they will never have the chance to shine. When ur young you want to prove urself so you can get all the fame and the money that comes with it. When your 30 odd, have had crippling injuries the incentive is just not there. You lose the heart and passion in a team then you effectively are admitting defeat before you even kick a ball.
The yanks i have never liked and never will, typical americans which is why they’re so hated in the world. They can go back to their rounders game and leave LFC alone.
To be fair, if rafa does manage to get 4th spot and liverpool into the champions league then i feel he should be given 1 more season at the most. However, should he fail to win anything (which is what i believe to be the case come end of the season) then we would have no choice but to replace him. Replace him with is a very hard question, finding a top coach is harder than finding a top striker these days.
If rumours are true regarding DIC, then i dont believe they will buy the club until the league is over. Its only natural. Liverpool will probably post a lost the following year considering we would lose a huge amount of sponsorship and advertising from the champions league. On top of the massive debt the club has been dumped with the situation could get alot worse before things get any better.
Then you have the issue of not attracting the top players, i mean the young and hungry ones and not those coming to the end of their term and want a fat pay off. Its a vicious cycle, no different to a recession. There is more at stake than just rafa job, its about whether we will move forward as a club and be able to finance any kind of stadium and team development.
We would definately need DIC to come in and pump some very serious money and quickly to stop the rot spreading like a cancer.
Over the next few months will shape lfc, all i know is there is massive pressure and its going to take some big people up top and on the pitch to get things right.
I might sound the pessimistic type but believe me, you definately need to think about these scenarios as this could very well happen. Leeds springs to mind always
And no i wont close my write up with ” in rafa we trust ” because we dont really.
What is happening to our club?
The Americans are the problem. Your useless manager and his crappy rotation is ruining the chemistry of the squad. The results fail squarely on him and the underachieving, worthless this season players on the pitch. Blaming the owners, because they are American, is ridiculous and only makes the scousers more of a laughingstock because of everyone else’s ability to grasp what is wrong with the club, while its own supporters are left baffled.
“Those American clowns have pissed me off too! Yes they delivered us Torres (thank god) but their conduct has made Newcasle look like a well run club.”
I keep banging my head against the same brick wall but here goes again.
-Hicks and Gillett take over Liverpool in mid 2007. Fans delighted with their stated philosophy and plans for investment.
-Summer of 2007 and Benitez gets to spend around 50m on players. He and fans declare themselves happy with business done and excited about the new season i.e. Hicks and Gillett delivered.
-Season starts well and Hicks and Gillett quickly advance plans for a state of the art new stadium, get approval and target start date. 2nd major promise quickly delivered.
-Benitez and players start to cock things up on the pitch and (unforgivably) Benitez, seemingly to take the heat off himself, goes public on his dissatisfaction with transfer funds (what bloody right had he 4 months after spending 50m???)
-Hicks and Gillett handle the situation diplomatically and refuse to get into a public debate. They agree a meeting with Benitez in December to discuss any issues.
-They hold the meeting and all parties announce afterwards that they are happy with the discussions. Hicks and Gillett voice their full support for Benitez.
-Hicks and Gillett spend most of their time in the US, letting the football people at Anfield run the show without interference.
-Results go from bad to worse over Christmas and the New Year. A PR blunder by Hicks reveals that Klinsmann was sounded out about the job. However, this was BEFORE the reconciliation meeting in December; Klinsmann had since committed himself elsewhere and support had been voiced for Benitez by the owners.
This last act was the only negative aspect in anything the new owners did and they have largely delievered on everything they promised so far.
So all the vitriol the Liverpool fans have directed towards these 2 is nonsense based on the facts….unless I’m missing something, and if I am I’d be happy to be enlightened.
But maybe we need to read Jack’s posting to solve this mystery. You see Jack, all the anger initially directed at the owners was misfounded. As soon as Liverpool were out of the PL race the frustration of the fans needed venting and the owners beacme a ready, if unfair, target.
Now there has been time for reflection the fans are starting to realise that the shambles that this season has evolved into is down to Benitez and the players. Benitez has not delivered in the transfer market or tactically.
Take you own stance as to whether he should go or stay but at least acknowledge the source of the problems. Personally I don’t think it would help to let him go at this point but someone other than the owners need to start telling him “must do better” instead of this nonsensical blind support.
I suggest the fans get the message accross because, be in no doubt whatsoever, fan sentiment can have a major bearing as to whether a manager stays or goes.
Finally for Colm: Does Houllier still not walk alone or is he a lonely figure in the wilderness these days?
Try not to let sentimental drivel get in the way of objective judgement so much.
You guys should not blame benitez.I think players account should be debited each time they refuse to play according to their coach’s instructions.Asides that, what can you say about the removal of muorinho even when things are not as bad as it is in liverpool.
