Liverpool have no plans to sell French defender Mamadou Sakho, despite strong interest from Serie A side Lazio.

In the pre-season matches, Dejan Lovren has started alongside Martin Skrtel, leading to consternations among the fans whether Sakho is really valued by Brendan Rodgers.

To add fuel to the fire, in the past 24 hours, Italian media have been reporting Lazio’s interest in the defender and talks have already been started between the two clubs over the move. It is rumoured that Sakho is not happy at the club. He is angling for a move, with his agent pulling the strings from behind.

Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce, who is well connected with the club, has claimed that Skrtel and Sakho would be Liverpool’s first choice centre-backs for next season, while Lovren would be third choice at best.

When asked on Twitter whether Sakho will be sold / Sakho heading towards exit, Pearce has vehemently denied the reports, and claimed ‘he’s going nowhere.’ To be honest, there was nothing to the story. It seemed like a media fabrication from a non-reputable Italian website, based on which English papers gave too much credence.

Liverpool probably won’t be looking to sign any more players after Christian Benteke, which means there would be no more centre backs coming into the club before the window shuts down.

Moving to other stories, Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert could be on his way out to join West Bromwich Albion this summer.

Widespread report suggests that a deal is in the works, with Lambert’s move could be completed within this week. While no transfer fee has been quoted elsewhere, Liverpool should not expect to get any handsome return for the 33-year-old, who has only a year left on his contract.
