Liverpool to make yet another Barry bid
According to BBC, Liverpool have already had two bids for Aston Villa captain, Gareth Barry, turned down. However that will not stop them from making a third bid. Rafa Benitez is determined to get his man after it emerged today that Juventus are getting closer and closer to completing a deal for Xabi Alonso.
However with reports suggesting that Aston Villa is holding out for an £18 million offer for their star player - or one of their star players. The BBC reckons that the price tag stapled on Barry’s head might be stretched too much on the long side for Liverpool’s liking and that could prevent him from completing a dream move.
Although it is unclear what would be more delightful for a player than to play for his childhood club, it seems that Gareth Barry wants out of Aston Villa, and Martin O’Neill has confirmed those rumours.
“It might be difficult. He said he would fancy going to Liverpool and that’s a big setback.” said O’Neill to the BBC.
At this rate it is hard to see how any of the mid-table clubs will ever be able to challenge for the top spots in the English Premier League. It seems that every time a bright player makes his mark at mid-table club like Everton or Aston Villa, one of the ‘big four’ is out to get him. Surely the FA, or the Premier League can do something about this.

Why do Pool want Barry so badly?
Problem: Villa will overtake Liverpool next season unless they cause some disruption to their team.
Answer: Buy (or at least unsettle) one of their best players.
@ 15: hah ! Please don’t make me laugh. But there is no harm in dreaming
Liverpool should be supplementing very good players like Alonso with good players like Barry. Instead Rafa is looking to replace one with the other. The top 3 teams have little to fear.
Hope this will be the last try as we should not put ourselves in a “blackmail” position which started from £14M.
We should stop wasting time on this and concentrate on acquiring Quaresma & David Villa. If we do get them, we will definitely be better off - with or without Barry. Having Barry alone is no guarantee to a league title so let’s stop wasting time.
plz number 2 aston villa take over liverpool wat bout everton tottenham portsmouth there clearly top teams are they gonna top liverpool to.
Why do Pool want Barry so badly?
Because he’s bloody good, you numpty!!!!!!!!!!
You aren’t getting Quaresma or Villa.
You can’t afford it, simple as.
They aint getting Barry either,
Can’t afford it, simple as.
Liverpool want him so badly because Villa don’t want to let him go. Not to mention the fact that he’s Gerrard’s mate. It has become a matter of pride for the scousers and commonsense has gone out of the window. Gareth’s a great player but he hasn’t suddenly become worth £18m because he’s played for England this year. I reckon MON has decided that if he can’t keep him he is going to make Benitez look an a**e by paying a ridiculous price for him. And he will.
They’ll offer 18 and Villa will demand 20. They’ll offer 20 and Villa will demand 22. I think Villa’s just hoping to stall in the hopes that Barry will decide to stay. Not sure why Liverpool is playing this game. That’s a lot of money for someone who’s just going to be rotated into the midfield along with everyone else not named Steven Gerrard.

“Liverpool should be supplementing very good players like Alonso with good players like Barry.”
It’s very clear that Benitez, like every other manager out there, is trying to IMPROVE his team. So, if Alonso is being sold for £14m, Gareth Barry (the last player to wear the England Captain’s Armband don’t forget!) MUST be worth MORE than £14m - right? Otherwise, Benitez is weakening his team isn’t he?
The simple fact is that Gareth Barry is contracted to Villa for the next two years so unless the club accept a bid for him, he hasn’t got a decision to make and has said as much himself. Okay, he’s also said that he wouldn’t mind playing for Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean we’ll just let him go there cheaply because the Scousers snap their fingers and because they’re a “top four side” Villa have to bow down and give in to their demands! If Liverpool rate him so highly, they’ll stump up the cash or leave him alone.
My honest opinion? If Liverpool don’t make a realistic bid for Gareth Barry, he’ll be a Villa player next season!
MON’s master plan: sell barry for £20m and help send liverpool the way of leeds
i was a spurs fan… NOT a Liverplop fan.
Alright Gareth (I know it isn’t really you btw :o) - You say you want to play Champions League Football, well EARN THE RIGHT and play it in a Villa shirt! Be part of The Five Year plan and get Villa into the Champions League by your efforts on the pitch. Villa is a very happy club at the moment, remember the “Proud History ~ Bright Future” blurb that came out? BE Part of that bright future!
Oh and by the way - Juventus have just turned down Alonso so I wonder where the money is coming from to buy ANYONE - let alone our Gareth!!! *chuckles*
I think this very poor attempt to buy our captain is dead in the water - you simply can’t afford him! Tell you what, we’ll buy Gerrard off you for….. £12m :o) It sounds like you could use the financial input!
martin oneil is the best manager in the prem,he wants to keep barry obviously he a very good player.liverpool want him and i think 15 to 18 mill is a fair price.but under the new laws in the game barry can buy out his contract say 7 mill liverpool pay him a signing on fee of say 10 mill and gareths laughing.

He may well be trying to IMPROVE his team, but Alonso is quite simply a better football player then Barry. Not knocking Barry, good player, but Alonso is better. Swapping one for the other will not be strengthening Liverpool. Barry’s high price is simply a matter of him being English and Villa not wanting to sell, it has nothing to do with a reflection on his quality. What on Earth has the fact he was the last England captain, in a meaningless friendly, got to do with anything?
If you can’t afford the price, look elsewhere. Gareth isn’t going anywhere on the cheap!
Nick - It’s Godzvilla with a Z mate. Godzilla was a dinosaur in a Japanese B movie - what you trying to say??? It’s a clever name because it implies that Villa are God’s team - get it? LOL!!
Anyway, I take your point about the meaningless friendly, but you try and buy the current England captain, he’s gotta be worth more than £13m whoever he is! :o)
What Liverpool fans seem totally incapable of grasping is that Villa don’t want to sell Barry, therefore if they do it will be at their valuation of him not Liverpool’s. Either pay up or look elsewhere, it really is that simple.
GodzVilla:-God has very low expectations then doesn’t he mate.
Nick - LOL!! We all have our cross to bear - if you pardon the expression!
In all honesty, this saga is dragging on a bit isn’t it? I was just reading an article over at vitalvilla and it would appear that there are a lot of Liverpool fans who don’t want Gareth Barry. Being totally honest, playing at Villa suits him - I think a move to Liverpool where his place is going to be under threat and he’ll be sitting on the bench a lot more may unsettle his game. When he’s on form and in the mood, he’s a cracking player but if things aren’t all smelling of roses in his world, he can become totally anonymous and you forget he’s even playing.
There has been a bit of a back-track in his “I want to play for Liverpool” statement, it now appears to have been “if the club agrees a fee for me to move to Liverpool, the opportunity to play Champions League football is something I would have to consider very carefully”
*Throws hands up in despair* At the end of the day, who knows what’ll happen? It looks like you can have him, but you’ll have to stump up the dosh first and he won’t be cheap!
It is dragging on, but Villa are coming out of it looking professional, and no doubt with bags of money when the deal is finally done, I’m not sure the same can be said of the player and Liverpool?
If Liverpool value Alonso at £14mil and Villa value Barry at £20mil, if I was MON I’d say give us Alonso and £5mil! Now that would be some deal for Villa, wouldn’t happen I know, but would be pretty funny! Improve your team, weaken the scousers and pocket some cash….it would make me laugh!
Now that would be good! I always thought he was a better racing driver than midfielder though! I think the way Liverpool have conducted themselves over this transfer has been dreadful - I think that more than anything has led to this situation. Martin won’t let anyone ride rough-shod over him and so he’s named his price and slammed the door. Good for him! But, what happens to Gareth if all this falls through? Do you think that’s why he’s done a bit of a u-turn over what he was reported to have said about wanting to play for Liverpool?
The other thing that worries me is that BG is to bloody nice! You need a hard edge to be a winner and I don’t know whether he’s got it. Compare his demeanour and attitude to that of someone like Ballack, Rooney or even Gerrard! He’s a nice guy and nice guys don’t usually end up winning much. Am I making the argument to sell or keep him again? I’ve forgotten whether I want him to stay or go!
I’m pretty sure he’ll go now, there’s no other option, worse comes to worse for Villa, they drop the price or meet Liverpool half way to get rid of him, you’ll still get more then he’s worth in my opinion. It’s all gone too public for him to stay now.
Barry isn’t what Liverpool need in my opinion, and most the fans know that too, that’s why they don’t want him, not ’cause he isn’t a good player, but how many midfielders does Rafa want?? They need genuine wide players and a proper forward. Villa are the only ones that are gunna come out of this on the up of you ask me. MON will spend that kinda cash wisely on 2 players that will move your team forward. Sometimes loosing your best player isn’t always the worst thing in the world. Look at us getting rid of Ruud, and when Keano finally left. That’s not to say I want ROnaldo to go mind! But that’s a whole other kettle of fish! That said, no player is priceless…….
