Over the past week, there have been talks in major English outlets that Liverpool are in search for a goalkeeper who can give competition to Belgian Simon Mignolet. The rumours are perfectly understandable as manager Brendan Rodgers has grown tired over Mignolet’s repeated mistakes. Liverpool had earlier rejected the chance to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer and the Mirror published a story that the Anfield side were looking to sign the Brazilian shot stopper Neto from Fiorentina.

It was believed that the 25 year old is currently unhappy in Italy and would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League. However today’s reports from Italian media outlets Viola News and Football Italia that Neto is set to sign a five year contract withe Fiorentina. Both the reports have cited Gazzetta Dello Sport as their sources.

There had been delays over the contract extension thanks to player’s salary demands.  Neto’s current salary is believed to come in at €650,000-per-season. However, Neto, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the season will now sign the contract which shall see him earn a basic salary of €2m. The contract might be signed as early as the November international break.

The recent developments would come as a huge blow for Liverpool as they had earlier believed that they can sign Neto on a cut price deal. The Premier League side will now have to look elsewhere to sign a goalkeeper
