Premier League Transfer

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger’s future at Anfield is under huge threat as manager Brendan Rodgers questioned the player’s ability to handle Premier League’s physically imposing forwards.

Agger, who joined in 2006 from Brondby, is the second most senior player in the squad after Steven Gerrard, but that hasn’t earned him automatic selection in the first team, with Rodgers preferring Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho ahead of the Dane.

He returned to the starting line-up against Swansea for the first time since recovering from calf-injury but his performance was highly unsatisfactory. The Reds manager admitted after the match that his decision to replace Agger with Toure was due to belief that physical presence was required to deal with Swansea forward, Wilfried Bony.

Tony Barrett of The Times writes that Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club’s owners have demanded greater value for money from players’ salaries. It is a policy that Rodgers has been happy to follow and that’s why the likes of Agger and Johnson will have to perform exceedingly well to command a new contract at the club.

The 29-year-old has entered the final two years of his present contract and so far there hasn’t been any talk over a possible new deal. Similarly, Glen Johnson has entered the last 18 months of his agreement and Liverpool want to be convinced that a contract extension is warranted, before handing over any new deal.

  1. Dagger’s gone backwards the last two seasons imo! He gets bullied by strikers, makes bad decisions more often now & his positioning has also gotten worse. Was always a class act & still is but now he needs to step his game up

  2. I commented on Pepe Reina’s poor performance and demanded for his removal which have seen Liverpool excelling now. Agger now is living in his past glories and will cause serious damages if he’s not benched.

  3. Agger is good but he just lost his form and needs time he will bounce bkk my only problem is Kolo Toure he is fucking up ooo
