Liverpool plotting to hijack Arsenal target Alvaro Morata?
The injury to Theo Walcott may force Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to delve into the transfer market. The Guardian today has speculated few strikers Wenger may look at, while The Mirror’s John Cross, who has a deep contact with the London club, reports that the Gunners are looking to solve their striker problem by signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.
According to the report, it says Wenger has made a move for the Real Madrid starlet to provide Arsenal with emergency cover.
Wenger has always opined that January transfer window is not the best time to buy players as the price are always inflated, but with Walcott set to miss out the rest of the season and possibly the World Cup, the Frenchman is looking to fill the void with a quality addition.
At the same time, he wants a loan-move as he fears that he won’t be getting his main targets until next summer. The Spaniard has struggled to get regular games at the Bernabeu this season and a loan move for him will be ideal as well.
However, Spanish newspaper Marca, who has a great inside contact with Real Madrid, reports that Arsenal are not the only Premier League club interested in Morata, but Liverpool are also monitoring the situation with close interest as well.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stressed the importance of winter transfer window, having seen his side benefitted from purchases last winter and there is a general consensus among the fans that the Reds would sign few players to give themselves a good chance for a place in top four, and even title challenge.
Morata will be a terrific signing for the Reds, should they manage to hijack the deal from Arsenal. Transfer window is slowly heating up, isn’t it?
