Liverpool midfielder wants to play or he’ll go

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun could soon be on his way out of Anfield if he doesn’t get more playing time.

Benayoun came over from West Ham in the summer of 2007 and scored 11 goals last season as part of Rafa Benitez’s rotation. But since starting three of Liverpool’s first four league games, the Israeli international has started only one league game since.

He spoke out to an Israeli TV station about his current frustrations. “If the situation remains the same over the next few months, and I’m not getting more time in the middle, I will not want to continue as a Liverpool player.”

Unfortunately for Benayoun, nothing will change unless he starts showing he merits more time on the pitch. He had some great contributions last season, but his quality performances weren’t as regular as they could’ve been. This season, no goals in 16 total appearances says enough, along with Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera doing their part to keep him (and others) on the bench.

I understand that he wants and needs to play and that it may be hard for some to play their best off the bench, but he needs to make the most of the time he does get. He’ll have some suitors around Europe if he does leave, but it’s up to him whether that happens or not.
