Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann has urged Brendan Rodgers to seal the signing of Southampton star Adam Lallana as he believes the midfielder will be the right addition for the Reds.

Earlier today we reported that the Merseyside club have improved their offer to £25m, after their initial bid of £20m was turned down by the Saints. The England international has been in fine form for Southampton last season, scoring nine goals and registering six assists from 38 league games.

The former Liverpool midfielder believes the addition of Lallana to the Reds’ squad will help the former Swansea manager give more balance to his side.

“I think we can sign Lallana. If you see how we played last season, I think many players will be interested to play with us,” Hamann told Goal.com.

“Liverpool have a great project for the future and we have a chance to sign him. Lallana will give us more balance in the depth of the squad.”

“Next season we will compete in many competitions and probably will get more injuries and suspensions. His position is what we need at the moment and I think he will be suitable for us,” the former Reds star concluded.

Lallana has already expressed his desire to feature in the Champions League. The Reds are featuring in the European competition after finishing the 2013-14 season second in the table.

“I’m ambitious. I have aspirations to play in the Champions League. Ever since I’ve played international football, you realise there’s that other level to play at. It would be great,” Lallana said.

“I went to a couple of the Champions League games last year and the feeling you get, the buzz, it’s an unbelievable atmosphere. It’s definitely a goal of mine to play in the Champions League.”

A move to Anfield could help him fulfil his European dream with Liverpool next season as they return to Europe’s elite club competition at Manchester United’s expense.
