Liverpool Latest: Alonso’s future ‘to be announced’ + Pastore to stay in France?
The future of Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso could be soon resolved, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting that a meeting between the player and the club is imminent.
The Spanish midfielder is out of contract at the end of the current season, and could leave on a free this summer.
Real have so far tried in vain to persuade the 32-year-old to extend his current deal, with the playmaker not giving anything away as to his plans for the future.
A final decision could be announced following a meeting between Alonso and the La Liga giants, says ‘AS’, which could happen in the next few days.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for their former star, who played at Anfield for five years between 2004-09, with the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd also in the hunt for a new midfielder.
There is hope that Alonso would be happy to make a return to Merseyside, and in our previous report we mentioned claims from Spanish Radio Station, ‘Cadana Ser’ that the Spaniard could make his next career move out of personal choice, and not for money.
Meanwhile, PSG’s Javier Pastore may be staying at the Parc De Princes after the French club’s owner, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, claimed that the Liverpool target is not unhappy in the French capital.
“I’m not sure he wants to leave,” Al-Khelaifi told French newspaper, L’Eqiupe (via Le 10 Sport),
“When a player is unhappy, it is difficult to retain him. But this is not the case for Pastore.
“We will never forget that he was one of the first major players to join our project from the beginning. And we are loyal to our players, as we ask them to be loyal to the club.”
The Argentine has endured a stop-start season so far in Ligue 1, and has been linked with a move away in the last few months.
PSG’s Al-Khelaifi has seemingly ruled out Pastore’s exit however, and has shown his support for the midfielder,
“Pastore is both a player and a man of quality.
“Maybe he is going through a difficult period, but he remains one of the greatest talents in the world of football. He knows he needs to do more.
“He must give more. I still believe very strongly in him, even if he has not shown everything he can show.”
