Manchester United have joined the race to sign former Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita, who is also a target of rivals Liverpool, on a free transfer.

Last month reports emerged in Valencia based newspaper Superdeporte that Keita is emerging as a prime target for Liverpool. The 34-year-old joined the Spanish club on a six month deal from Chinese club Dalian Aerbin in January transfer window and will be a free agent as he has not signed a contract extension.

Furthermore, the Mali international is eyeing to play in Champions League next season, which Valencia cannot offer.

Superdeporte now reports that Serie A club Roma have joined the race to sign Keita, although they mention Liverpool are in pole position in the race. Roma’s managing director Walter Sabatini has admitted this interest in signing the midfielder. Keita shares same agent with Rudi Garcia, the real architect behind the re-emergence of the Serie A giants.

The report adds that another possible destination for Keita could be Manchester United. The Red Devils are looking to add midfielders to their ranks and Keita would fit into the system of Louis van Gaal, who “opts for a quick and vertical football”. Valencia have made their last attempt to keep him but he is unhappy with the offer presented.

Well, Keita has wealth of experience under his belt and would be a safe gamble in my opinion, especially for any free transfer. Should Liverpool go for him in the summer? Have your say below…
