According to the BBC, Liverpool have made a final offer of £25m for Southampton captain Adam Lallana, with the Reds continuing their assault on the beleaguered Saints, looking to take both the midfielder and teammate Rickie Lambert to Anfield this summer.

Lallana, who started in England’s 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley this evening, had a superb Premier League season of last, and was intrinsic to Southampton’s rise to eighth in the table, with their highest ever points tally.

His performances have attracted the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers’ side now pushing hard to secure the player ahead of the competition.

The £25m bid, however, will be the last made by the club, who had an initial £20m bid rejected. The club are reportedly gearing up to pursue other major targets, and do not want to be bogged down by a lengthy chase for the 26-year-old star.

A major sticking point is that Lallana’s previous club Bournemouth are entitled to 25% of the money Southampton make from any transfer involving the player, with the Saints indicating after initially rejecting Liverpool’s first offer that they are looking to end up with at least £20m after the Bournemouth payment.

If the £25m bid is accepted, it will leave Southampton with £18.75m, with the remaining £6.25m going to Bournemouth.

Liverpool have already agreed a £4m+add ons deal with the Saints for striker Rickie Lambert, who will fly with Lallana in the England squad to Brazil this summer. The 32-year-old is set for a medical this Saturday.
