Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is gearing up for a busy January if reports are to be believed, with the 40-year-old making the trip to Germany last week to watch two of Europe’s finest young talents in action.

Rodgers was spotted at the game between Schalke and Basel on Wednesday, and is rumoured to have run the rule over wingers Mohammad Salah and  Julian Draxler.

The German side won 2-0 on the night, with 20-year-old Draxler bagging the first goal. Salah looked dangerous on the counter, but he and his Basel teammates could do little to stop Schalke from running out winners.

The Liverpool boss would surely have been impressed with what he saw, with the Mail claiming a £12m bid for 21-year-old Salah is on the cards.

This is reportedly the result of six months of scouting the winger, dubbed the ‘Egyptian Messi’, with Rodgers looking to move fast to secure his man.

Injuries to Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge will surely see Liverpool delve into winter market, and judging by Rodgers’ midweek jaunt to the continent, it may be sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, Man Utd boss David Moyes has spoken of his adamancy that he will be looking for new signings in the upcoming markets, and that a number of players are staring down the barrel.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Moyes indicated that he was prepared to listen to offers in January for some of his under-performing players, and that he and the club are working hard to procure a stellar signings, after being defeated in the race for Gareth Bale in the summer.

“I think that we’re getting to a situation now where there are a few who if we got the right offer for them [we would let them go],” Moyes said, when asked if he was preparing to sell in January.

When asked if Utd was set to wade into upcoming transfer markets, Moyes replied, “Definitely, 100 per cent…They have got the money and the club will spend, there’s no question about that.”

Javier Hernandez is just one of the many names being linked away from Old Trafford, and it is pretty clear that January will be a very interesting period for Utd fans.
