Liverpool haven’t given up on their chase for highly rated young midfielder Jorginho and are ready to battle with Napoli, according to reports in Italy.
Yesterday, we reported that that Napoli have already agreed a fee with the player and have have the necessary details ready with them and are simply waiting for the player’s signature to complete the deal.
Italian newspaper II Martino reported that Napoli will pay €7.5m upfront and another €2.5m will be added as a performance related payment.
The 22-year-old has had a fantastic season for Hellas Verona, where he scored seven goals so far for the newly promoted side. The player’s representative said few days back:
“He can leave Verona now if he receives a great offer – if an important proposal arrives it is fair that the player is allowed to leave.
“In Italy there are three or four teams who can pay for him and Napoli is one of them.
“Napoli is one of the most important clubs in Italy. If Napoli want him they should talk with Verona, who play their next match against the Blues. Now Jorginho is focused on the team and does not think about the transfer market.”
Liverpool were interested in signing in the youngster in the summer and have not still given up the chase. The newspaper claims that Liverpool see him as a back-up to club legend Steven Gerrard, and could be a possible long term replacement of him.
As we said before, the deal is far from being complete and the Reds still have a chance, should they move quickly.
Do you think Liverpool should step up their chase for the midfielder and hijack the deal from Napoli?
