Liverpool have recouped £75m by selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona and manager Brendan Rodgers has vowed the invest the money in the squad. He revealed that four signings Liverpool have made so far were independent to Suarez’ departure and if we add money from potential player sales, the total transfer budget is expected to cross £100m.

Already Liverpool have sold Iago Aspas to Sevilla on loan (free up the wages) and are close to selling yet another striker in the summer. The Times’ merseyside reporter and one of the most trusted and respected journalists around Tony Barrett now claims that Liverpool have agreed a deal with Sunderland for Italian striker Fabio Borini.

Borini joined Liverpool in 2012 and became Brendan Rodgers’ first major signing. However, he struggled to make a big impression while injury hampered his progress in his debut season at Anfield. He was sent on loan to Sunderland last season, where he scored 17 league goals. It seems like the Black Cats want to make the deal permanent and with the money they’re prepared to offer; really hard for Liverpool to turn it down.

The departure of Borini indicates only one thing – Liverpool must have an alternative deal in place. The Reds are heavily linked with a move for Loic Remy, who has attracted interest from Arsenal as well, and are prepared to trigger the £8m release clause, inserted in the Frenchman’s contract.

Liverpool were linked with a move for Wilfried Bony, but Remy emerges out as number one strike target and represents a better value than the Swansea frontman. The Times also reported that Liverpool are also closing in on signing Belgium striker Divock Origi.
