Nice article Yomi, I've enjoyed reading your articles on French football here. Keep up the good work :-)

Title race is hard to call this season. The only real prediction I have is I don't think Claude Puel will see out the season at Lyon.

In all honesty, i don't see Bordeaux doing much in Europe and would be really surprised if they got out of the group stages (but that also depends what teams make up the group). If you watched a number of Bordeaux games last season, it was pretty apparent that the team lacked depth even for the domestic campaign. Add about 6 more European games and the prospect of maybe 2 more in the second knock-out round and you've got a squad wholly incapable of competing on two fronts. Blanc needs at least 3 more better than average players if les Girodins hope to win back to back titles and at least half a dozen players if the team wants to make a splash in Europe.

Chamakh is quite good but not that good. He's sorta a clone of Marseille's smashing Mamadou Niang who is a better finisher, a quicker player and saner human being. While fellow Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi is a purer goal poacher a la Micheal Owen, Chamakh is brilliant at using the wings and beating the offside trap. He;s not a direct replacement for Adebayor in any shape or form but he could be a nice addition in a trident attack composed of Arshavin and Van Persie.

Smashing article that, have to agree with your assessment of most things- especially Gomis at Lyon (never been overly impressed and he was cruelly exposed at international level).

Great review Yomi! I'm interested in your view of Chamakh. 13 golas is hardly prolific and Arsenal are only offering small money. Is he really that good?

I haven't seen much of him so I have no view myself.

Also, how do you think Bordeaux will go in the Champions League?
