Less Games for Chelsea Will Benefit My Son: Thierry Hazard

Thierry Hazard, father of Eden Hazard, feels that his son will be in a better shape ahead of Euro 2016, if he plays less games for Chelsea this season.

Chelsea have had a poor start to the season, sitting uncomfortably 16th in the league table, and have already lost more games than they did last season.

Hazard was one of the key instigator of last season’s success, but the Belgium international has struggled for form and failed exert an influence in the side so far.

He has yet to score in the Premier League and has only managed two assists from eight Premier League games.

Hazard’s father understands that the Chelsea winger need to perform, but at the same time feels that being left out of squad would leave the 24-year-old feeling fresher for the Euro 2016 next summer.

“Every cloud has a silver lining,” Thierry Hazard said in The Times (via ESPN). “If he plays less, he would arrive less tired at the Euros, which he is so keen on playing because it takes place in his back garden [France], with his own watching.

“Eden plays since the age of 16 years in the first team. In almost six years, he has never been suspended or suffered a big injury. You have to put things in perspective. Each year he sets new goals that he makes a real point of achieving.

“Personally, he is conscious of having to improve his stats. His strength lies in knowing exactly where he is at, but never gets overwhelmed: he does not purposely miss a penalty.”

The Senior Hazard has praised Jose Mourinho for the way he has taken care of his son’s development in the past few years.

Although, Hazard hasn’t been at his best so far, and has received criticisms from the fans, but he is still influential in making things happen in matches (210 successful final-third passes in the 2015/16 Premier League).

It is easy to forget that Hazard is only 24 and there is too much pressure on his shoulders to carry the team forward. But odd rests between the games will definitely keep him fresh for next season’s Euro Cup.
