I AM A YOUNG INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS GROWN TO ACTUALLY SEE THE REALITY OF THE EXISTENCE OF PROSTITUTION. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND WILL CONTINUE TO AS LONG AS PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO BUY. I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE PROSTITUTION BEING LEGALISED SIMPLY TO PROVE THAT WE ALL HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS AS HUMANS, ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITH THEIR BODIES AND JUST LIKE EVERYONE BE REMINDED AND MADE AWARE OF THE EXISTING DISEASES. PROSTITUTES RIGHTS SHOULD BE AKNOWLEGED, I MEAN REALLY NOW WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE SOMEONE ELSE ABOUT HOW THEY MAKE A LIVING? WE ARE A GROWING NATION AND PROBLEMS OF GROWING UNEMPLOYMENT ARE RISING SO IS THE CRIME RATE, LETS NOT GIVE UP WITHOUT GIVING IT A TRY. HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY THE FACT THAT POLICEMEN (WHOM WE VIEW AS PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE TO PROTECT)RAPING A PROSTITUTE AND NOT BEING REGARDED AS HAVING COMMITTED A CRIME JUST BECAUSE IT WAS A PROSTITUTE? THE FOCUS SHOULD BE THAT A HUMAN BEINGS RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED THEREFORE I SAY GO AHEAD WITH LEGALISING IT IS A JOB AFTER ALL AND THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE TAXED LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WHO IS WORKING AND THERE SHOULD BE AN AGE LIMIT SO AS TO REDUCE AND IN THE END ELIMINATE CHILD PROSTITUTION…I AM A STUDENT IN VARSITY AND THERE ARE STUDENTS WHOM I HEAR ARE INVOLVED IN THIS BUSINESS JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET AS THEY RESIDE IN RESIDENCE, LETS PLAN ON PROTECTING THE INDIVIDUALS AND ALLOCATE SPECIFIC AREAS WHERE THIS BUSINESS CAN TAKE PLACE AS THIS WILL ALLOW FOR EASIER EVALUATION AND MONITORING.

Well said, Erica @ 5. Since it is, generally, women who are abused during prostitution, it is women who should become more vocal and and express their anger at the moves to legalize prostitution.

Women should tell their men that if they commit adultery, they should not bother returning. Loose men should stay with loose women, prostitutes or pick-ups at clubs.

All the arguments count for nothing when little souvenirs are taken home and passed around. Or in the Final Reckoning.

When Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”, he must have meant ‘women’ as well.

it would be nice if SA could legalize or decriminalise prosecution, because sex forms part of entertainment, its great for stress managment, it nothing new but nature. if one person can use his/her mounth e.g a teacher in order to make a living then why prostitutes are denied the right to use another part of the body to make a living

but would legalising it not encourage cheaper risker alternatives? one must bare in mind – alcohol and drugs often induce promiscuity – these “paying patrons” would surely go for a cheaper, option that perhaps claims to have been tested for AIDS etc. Thers is simply no way to justify legalising prostitution!!

Prostitution should be legalized, so the women working can be protected while they are out in dangerous situations. Many of these women are already living a hard life of drug addiction and other problems and now feel as if this is the only way the can make a living. If prostitution is legalized, the women can be screened for STDs and that would help stop the spread of all STDs. Let me remind all that syphilis was once a disease that killed just like AIDS does now. Society does not protect them from being raped and killed on the street. I am not saying I would want anyone I know to be a prostitute but we have all heard of prostitutes being killed by some crazed man who feels like he needs to rid the world of these “Bad” people. Men will continuously solicit prostitutes wether legal or illegal. How long will we call ourselves moral while these women are abused on the streets?

Considernig SA s a nation ravaged by HIV, AID, crime etc. would legalising the world’s oldest trade not make it seem more agreeable to be promiscuous. would it not promote adultery, divorces etc??
SA may be developing – but surely this would be a step backward. even if it is acceotable in many “developed/First World” nations!!! The mere suggestion is absurd!

Prostitution legal are these people crazy? They need to think about the consequences they might suffer. It is being taught at schools to have some dignity and to stand up for what is right and now the idea of legalisation is coming up.

So what they are trying to say is prostitution is an option for poor people. Why teach children to have dignity if it is something the government doesnt care about. In all i think its a crazy idea and making it legal may lower or prevent our chances of staging another huge sporting event as this world cup.

the question of whetha 2 legalise prostitution has divided society for a while now into two sides.. those with & those without morales. studies into the success of the legalization of prostitution have showed it to be to the contrary in countries such as, well many, if not all, of the countries that hav bowed to greed.

the issue of the dignity of women, let alone man, has been sidelined for wot, financial gain? and to what extent? along with the legalization of prostitution comes more ways for criminals to operate bigger and stronger syndicates to expose women.
