Latest Transfer News: Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool

Share

Plenty of juicy transfer rumours today; most of them are already covered here on Soccerlens so I’ve just give you a quick walkthrough and point you in the right direction for each rumour (and it’s discussion).

Tottenham after Riquelme

News coming out of Spain that Tottenham have made a ‘serious offer’ to Villarreal for Riquelme. I think it’s a play by Riquelme’s agent to get other clubs to bid for him – there’s already noise over at the Newcastle United site where someone in the comments has asked if Newcastle should go for Riquelme. I’d think that Riquelme’s agent is aiming for another Spanish club.

Manchester United after Berbatov?

Another silly rumour involving Manchester United, this time it has to do with Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov. Let’s just say that it’s bogus and that the stories about Berbatov being ‘unsettled’ by a large Manchester United bid or by an argument over Jol’s rotation policy are largely over-exaggerated.

Manchester United after Martins?

With the Anelka rumour dying down, the rumour mill now moves to the next striker on their list, Newcastle United’s Obafemi Martins. The mere mention of Manchester United’s need, Newcastle United’s relative inferiority in the transfer stakes and the fact that Martins has a buy-out clause in his Newcastle United contract is enough to get tongues wagging.

What’s worse, some Newcastle United fans are resigned to the fact that they could very well lose Martins if Manchester United come knocking. No faith in your players, eh?

I doubt this will happen either – because United are not buying, and Newcastle are not going to sell no matter what happens.

Heinze loses case to move to Liverpool, will he stay at Manchester United?

With Gabriel Heinze losing his bid to make a move to Liverpool, his future is now wide open and with only 10 days left, anything that’s going to be done has to be done really fast.

I personally think that Heinze will buckle down and stay at United, although he could still buy out his contract and head over to Liverpool. Something tells me though that after today he’s probably not going to go that far, and he will nevertheless have a new contract offer waiting for him at Old Trafford (hopefully).

If he does leave, I don’t see him going to France either – most likely La Liga, if they’ll take him at such short notice, that is.

That’s it for right now – will hopefully have more for you tomorrow.

  1. I know I will get shot for the following statement by a ot of ‘frustrated’ ManU fans, but, MANCHESTER UNITED DON’T NEED TO BUY ANOTHER STRIKER!!!

If we do go for one, it can have serious complications when everyone is fit again. Also, when are we going to blood young strikers?

  2. United need a new manager. Saf is a great Manager but i think hes passed it i think they need a new guy to solve their problems.

Omg is anybody noticing Stevie is still improving i always thought he passed hs peak but it seams that West Ham, Olmpiakos and Ac milan were just sneak previews of what hes got :)

  3. I’m a vt op on the super sunday team (one of a few ) and not only is SAF planning a move for Berbatov but that the Jol / board bust up is because of the predicted profit on Berbatovs sale to United not going towards financing a move for a creative midfielder, perhaps Riquelme – not sure, this wasn’t mentioned – and not Berb. / Jol bust up as reported. How do we know? Reel footage of Sir Alex talking to Geoff pre-match at the Mancs derby match. The only reason he’s not at Old Trafford already is because of this bust up at Spurs. If it settles down he’ll move, if Jol gets axed, he’ll move. If there hadn’t been a bust up he’d have signed way before Tevez. Either way, he’ll move. The plan was always to get the two and Rooney to play behind them. Berb. wants out and the board at Spurs want some money recouped for dividends.

  4. Wasnt Requelme at Boca Juniors for a bit tyhis season, I was watching a football game on SBS but couldnt make out what they were saying about Requelme because of there strong acents and ad english?

  5. vt op – This move won’t surpise me much. I always though that there was something fishy with the Bent move for £17m. Why would you pay that much money for a striker if you already have Berba and Defoe? I suspect that the idea was to hook up Defoe and Bent because they were banking on a sale of Berba. Why it didn’t happen is anyone’s guess.
However, I still state that United don’t need another striker. We’re quite fine. I’d hate for United to go the route of AC milan of the 90′s where they ‘bought’ up all the competition’s best players. In the end, it backfired on them.

    @liverppol_fan
When did SAF become ‘pass it’? After he won his last league title? I’m not a rocket-scientist, but I doubt that you can go from ‘greatest winner’ to ‘greatest loser’ in 1 pre-season. Anyway, when the Glazers decide that he is past it, I’m sure they’ll make a plan to move him to their American counterparts Liverpool for a couple of seasons (you know, to help them also achieve what Rafa couldn’t).

  6. LiverFOOL_Fan are you really this dumb or maybe its a show? We all know that SAF will not retire until UTD have won the most titles in England and that’s probably a couple of seasons away.A couple being TWO by the way.LOL!!!

    GLORY GLORY MAN Utd!!!

  7. According to ManUtd.com Heinze is joining Real Madrid on a four-year deal.
