great article someones been doing their homework,,,,,
i would like to point out though that any new manager entering a football club (unless he has had prior dealings with that club ie. ex player) or unless he has achieved success as a manager with other clubs, will always be greeted with unknown speculism,,,fans always want the best for their club.when kj was appointed as manager of my club MILLWALL i too was unsure about his appointment, the board at millwall were always trying to convince us fans that the club were moving in the right direction that they too were hungry for success. we saw numerous managers come and go and we were struggling at the wrong end of league 1, when the managerial job became vacant again the board at millwall said that the next manager to be appointed had to be someone who was commited to the cause and able to bring success to the club...many managers applied for the vacancy including a certain Mr.Jackett.when it was announced that a new manager had been appointed we awaited with baited breath hoping it would be a big name someone with a success history. But to our disapointment our new leader was announced as KENNY JACKETT. Oh dear here we go again a Mr.noboddy same old story bring in someone on the cheap (we all cried in pain at the appointment) We were so disgruntled it was untrue, so really to say millwall fans were against KJ. is not entirely true we were dissapointed with the board. From week 1 of his appointment things seemed to change,,,for the better, the football improved you could see the change in the players attitude towards their game, we could sence that we were going to avoid the dreaded drop into oblivian. And thanks entirely to Mr.KJ. we surrvived.
During the close season KJ. has put together a team on a very very small budget mainly free transfers and loan signings a team who are currently joint first in league one.We have won 9 of our last 11 games,we feel that our team (BUILT ENTIRELY BY KJ.) are more than a match for any team in this division a far cry from this time last year. The board here had total confidence in KJ.and how they proved ALL us fans (the experts)wrong.the board here are well loved by the millwall faithful,KJ.is well loved by the millwall faithful. And with the present board and with a remarkble manager which he truely is, We all believe millwall are a club going places.Millwalls chairman announced in the press many months ago that KJ.would remain as millwall manager for many many years, all i can say to that is long may his rein continue,,,,,,

Couldn't agree more - whoever the friend is that pointed it out must be very knowledgeable! Well researched and I guess the conclusion is that KJ should be number 2 at a top team and I mean top 6 Premier. Worth his weight in gold in that position.

Excellent article. I have always rated Jackett and soon enough, a chairman from a decent team will snap him up, tell him that he is the number one choice, and get him in no matter what uneducated fans may think...he is a brilliant stabiliser and i reckon if he was to go somewhere like plymouth, barnley, hull, blackpool etc, he could make them solid and then after a couple of years ready them for a premiership attack...

great manager and i wish he would come to coventry.

Excellent article, Graham. Jackett was one that I considered for my managerial series, but I balked because I preferred to give the attention elsewhere. I do think that it is entirely possible that City's decline is in part attributable to Jackett's departure, as we have seen in many cases recently that "right-hand men" can be just as crucial as managers to certain coaching set-ups (e.g. Pako Aieyerestan - misspelt, but I don't have time to check it at the moment). I must say, I was quite upset that he went to Milwall, since I have for him a huge respect and for them a rather large amount of disdain :P
