With just over a week left to go till it slams shut, the transfer window is hotting up. Arsenal have been in the news a lot lately, and it seems likely that manager Arsene Wenger will make at least one more addition to the squad in the days that remain.

There may though, also be a departure, a shocking one, as far as Arsenal fans are concerned. According to reliable source Gianluca Di Marzio, Seria A champions are targeting Lukas Podolski. New manager Massimiliano Allegri wants a new striker at the club, and the German is said to be at the top of his wish-list.

Lukas Podolski

Podolski joined Arsenal from German club FC Koln in 2012. Despite having an impressive goal-ratio, he has failed to establish himself as a regular in the Gunners’ side. Wenger has often deployed him out-of-position, playing him on the left wing and preferring Olivier Giroud at centre forward.

Due to his lack of playing time at the Emirates, Podolski has also lost his place in the national side. After being one of the Germans’ most important players in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he rarely featured in Brazil a couple of months back.

Arsenal fans though, will be absolutely livid if Podolski is sold. Not only is the 29 year-old a firm favourite, he is also one of the main men providing cover for Giroud. The Gunners have been linked to several strikers this summer, including Edinson Cavani and Karim Benzema, but have been unable to sign anyone. It will therefore be surprising if they let go of Podolski, who on his day, is absolutely world-class.
