Chelsea chase €35m Manchester United target, January bid likely?

Juan Cuadrado Manchester United

One of the curious questions I have seen asked by many Chelsea fans on social media is where the club should consider bolstering from here on. The current squad is choc-a-bloc with highly talented players with almost all of them are performing at a great level that seems like a perfect well-oiled machine.

The current squad has an avalanche of top attacking midfielders, but there could be few openings in defence. That brings us to Colombian wing-back Juan Cuadrado and his curious case.

Cuadrado impressed heavily during the World Cup that saw him being heavily linked with a move to both Manchester United and Barcelona. It is hard for us to fathom out to what degree of interest United chased Cuadrado, but we can safely assume there was quite a bit of interest in him.

Mundo Deportivo report back in April, where they claimed Manchester United’s interest in Cuadrado

I don’t think there was any concrete move for him, no matter what the Catalan press claimed so, probably due to his high release clause, which was over €40m back in summer. With both United & Barcelona had other priorities, they probably walked out of the race, leaving Cuadrado no option rather to continue with the Viola.

Sky Italia are reporting that Chelsea could make a surprise move for Cuadrado in January, who could be available for around €35m. Jose Mourinho is a big fan of him and the possibility of a bid in January cannot be ruled out.

Well, I always believe that there is always a room for world class player in your team, and it is up to the manager to integrate properly. Cuadrado brings an added dimension with his attacking instincts and intelligence, but it remains to be seen, whether any club still willing to pay €35m for him. The dosh could be used elsewhere.

Chelsea have a good defensive set up with Cesar Azpilicueta can be seen as the Jack-of-all-trades; question remains – do Chelsea at all need Juan Cuadrado?
