Pep Guardiola could renew his rivalry with Jose Mourinho next season, as widespread reports suggest that the Portuguese will take charge of Manchester United in the summer.

Manchester City have announced earlier this week that Guardiola will take charge of City next season. And there is a high possibility that the Spaniard may face his old rival Mourinho (the two developed a fierce rivalry during their time at Barcelona and Real Madrid) again should the Portuguese take charge of United in the summer.

Spanish online newspaper El Confidencial relays information from Portuguese sources, who claim that Mourinho has already signed an agreement with United. Jorge Mendes, his agent, has done his part in the deal, and the former Chelsea boss is 100% certain to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Mourinho will probably have to wait next summer to take charge at United, as the Red Devils have no intentions of sacking their manager midway through the season.

Miguel Delaney of ESPN notes that Mourinho and his representatives are confident that he will become the next manager at United. However, the deal is far from being done, as United board are not unanimous on their decision to hire the former Inter Milan manager.

United are also impressed with the works of Mauricio Pochetinno, who has done a remarkable job with Tottenham Hotspur, but there is a lingering feeling that the Argentine is not yet ready for the Old Trafford job.

Majority of the board members believe that Mourinho is the best manager available to take the club forward and his name and reputation still carry significant weight to attract top players to Old Trafford.
