Jordan Henderson has insisted that there are loads of candidates who can take up the captaincy from Steven Gerrard at the end of the season. The vice captain who has admirably led Liverpool over the past few weeks however is in pole position to take over the role as Gerrard is set to leave the Anfiekd outfit and join MLS side LA Galaxy in the summer.

The 24 year old Henderson claims that he has relished the role but is taking nothing for granted. As reportd by Liverpool Echo, the midfielder was quoted saying, “Next season we’ll see what happens because it might not be me succeeding Stevie, it might be someone else.”

“There are a lot of strong leaders in the dressing room. There are a lot of big characters in the team – down to earth humble people. Mama (Sakho), Emre (Can) and Skerts (Martin Skrtel) have developed a strong collective understanding.”

“You can see their passion, they’re desperate to win, they give everything. Studge (Daniel Sturridge) is a big character. Lucas (Leiva) is too. I can only do the current job the best I can.”

Henderson has led Liverpool 13 times and is yet to taste defeat. The former Sunderland player also claims that he has learnt a lot playing beside Gerrard. The midfielder believes that Gerrard is someone he has looked up to whenever he is on the field and has tried to learn for the Anfield legend.

Henderson has been real revelation this season having scored 5 goals and grabbing 11 assists to his credit this term. Playing in a variety of positions has also helped him become a much better player. Manager Brendan Rodgers has played him in attacking and defensive central midfield roles while he has also donned the roles on the wing.
