Jol, Ramos and the idiots running Tottenham
“What a bunch of idiots.”
I said that when I first heard about the Tottenham board approaching Juande Ramos, behind Martin Jol’s back, towards the end of August. How hard does your father have to fuck you in your ears for you not to understand the anal stupidity of backing a manager through the summer only to stab him in the back at the end of it?
No, seriously, how far up your ass does your head need to go before you realise that you’ve hit a dead end, that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re stuck? Wait, wrong metaphor…
In any case, as I’ve succinctly stated here and here, the Tottenham board fucked up with Martin Jol in the summer.
Jol wasn’t the man to help them make the Big Four into the Happy Five, at least not for a couple of years until he brought in the right players, put together a balanced team and he learned on the job and perhaps (wishful thinking, only because I’m somewhat sympathetic to the big Dutchman at the moment) fixed his tactical deficiencies.
Hey, we’re still waiting on Rafael Benitez, the Messiah at Merseyside for the same thing, aren’t we?
I’m tempted to think that something happened behind the scenes that we’re not aware of, but the ineptitude of Daniel Levy and co. in mismanaging this situation, from not replacing Jol in the summer to schmoozing with Ramos in Spain to forcing Martin Jol to announce Tottenham’s “objective” to qualify for the Champions League to firing the manager right before / during / after a European fixture, giving your backup staff 3 days before a crunch game at White Hart Lane with Blackburn, a game Tottenham were in slight danger of losing with Jol onboard, and are now standing bare naked in the middle of the road in front of the raging Rovers horde. How Robbie Savage would love to get stuck into the unsettled, under-pressure Spurs players…
But I’m probably overdoing it - regarding the Sunday matchup, that is. Everything else, especially the head up the ass thing, spot on. It’s also true that this is the right decision, it’s just disgusting the way they’ve gone about making it.
Anyway, on to the future. Chris from COS tells me the Ramos / Poyet deal is unofficially done and dusted, so by morning (when you read this - it’s 5 am right now where I am - and yes, I got out of bed to write this, that’s how annoyed and angry I am at the Spurs board) you should know.
Ramos is a good choice, a young and vibrant coach, and hopefully he’ll do well at Tottenham. He needs players though, and he needs a center-back who isn’t making hay with the nurses on the doc’s table (they’re running out of medical reasons to keep him off the pitch - it’s a conspiracy I tell you) more than he’s playing for his club, captain that he is. No comment on what he should do with Robbo though (give him a rest, and get him back in the sack later on in the season, I’m sure it will bring his confidence back).
Good luck to Martin Jol, and good luck to Tottenham and their new manager. They need it more than the Dutchman.

you just know that ajax is going to shoo out koster for jol
Never thought I’d agree with anything said on this site. Jol was treated very badly and I’m sorry to see him go. If the board didn’t have the balls to get rid of him in the summer they should have stuck by him. Two faced morons. I also think it’s the right decision… I just don’t think our most succesful manager for years deserved to be shafted like that. The thing which makes me really really angry is the way they’ve sacked Chris Houghton. He’s been at Tottenham for years and has been extremely faithful… definately didn’t deserve to go. The Board = Morons!!
there’s always a first time shaun.
btw, I think they cleared Chris out because they wanted a change of how things were being done, and the old style (which Chris was a part of) wasn’t working, so he was shown the door.
U guys simply have brilliant ‘hindsight’. So easy for u guys to say now. But how any of you can expect Levy to have sacked Jol in the summer, on the back of 2 5th place finishes, with the full and vociferous support of the fans, is utterly beyond me. Jol was still seen by 99% of the fans to be the messiah during the summer, after 2 5th place finishes. IF JOL HAD SACKED LEVY IN THE SUMMER, THE FANS WOULD HAVE PROTESTED IN THE THOUSANDS ON THE STREETS AND WOULD HAVE CALLED FOR LEVY’S HEAD. Come on none of us could have confidently predicted such a disasterous start to the season - 1 win in 10 games and that win was in the easiest league fixture in the season. Neither could Levy. But now that it’s happened and the team looks utterly broken, it had to happen.
Chris Houghton has remained in the management/coaching staff through all these years of mediocrity we have experienced. I think its fair to say many fans believe it’s time for a change not just in the management, but the mediocre coaching staff we have had all these years.

Why haven’t Spurs’ fans protested against Levy yet ?
There is nothing a fan can do these days. These clubs are like a company owned by a few shareholders and the fans are there to fill the coffers. Sacking Jol would have been nothing compared to what Calderon did to Capello.
They did wrong by Jol but then again they shouldnt have been trying for top4 this season its too quick, Spurs need stability and should have tried to help Jol, perhaps by moving Chris out first to see if another number two with new coaching skills could have helped. sorry Chris but you been with spurs for years and Im not sure its helping
Ahmed - did I never tell you about my Ledley King/Thelwell theory?

Jol asked “to be judged after 10 games, not 2 or 3″.
Judged you have been Martin, no-one is safe in the botton three (even SAF) after spending £40million (whoever chose the players is neither here nor there, welcome to the new game). If Ramos comes in and wins three in a row, cuddly Jol is forgotten Spurs are mid-table and everyone’s a winner. Jol for QPR!!!
Everyone knows that Jol has been a dead man walking ever since that first less than supportive declaration of support from Spurs at the start of the season.
That cannot have helped the management or the players and whilst them being rubbish is expected, to be in the bottom 3 is a bit too much!
Having said that, I was susrprised at Spuds fans reactions to the possibility of Ramos when it first came up. They have an ambitious board who have spent a lot of money and when they are considering one of the best managers in Europe over the last few years, they get all up in arms about it!
I think Jol’s treatment was disgraceful, but as much I hate to see it, if they get Ramos, its definitely a step forward.
Not sure it will happen though, Ramos is a pretty loyal character who has said that he will stay until the end of the season and the Leeds website have confirmed that Poyet HASNT been approached and they wouldnt want him to be.
So, as a Happy Hammer, all this couldnt have happened to a nicer club than Spurs(!), but if they do get Ramos, that will be a huge step forward for them, and like the earlier post said, Jol will be forgotten!
Has anyone noticed that Ramos is Sevilla’s Martin Jol? Sevilla has, like Spurs, instead of building on last season, started slowly, and only won 9 points from 7 games, which isn’t all that better than Spurs’ 7 out of 10. They also splashed some cash and strengthened their squad (on paper), but it gave few results. What, I ask you, makes him the ideal man for the Spurs?
TTTS - Juande Ramos has a proven record of dealing with exciting youngsters, has won numerous high-profile competitions (the UEFA Cup twice, the Copa del Rey), and has beaten top 4 clubs on a regular basis, as well as qualifying for the Champions’ League; all of this despite losing some excellent players and not having anywhere near as much money to spend as his counterparts at Barcelona and Real Madrid. These are precisely the charges being levelled against Martin Jol - few Spurs fans believe, even now, that Jol is or was a bad manager. My problem with him was that I did not feel he was the man to make an extra push for the Champions’ League or to actually win a trophy; he was a bottler in crunch situations.
Yes, Sevilla have had a difficult start. But actually, 3 wins from 7 is quite a lot better than 1 win from 10; and you have not factored in the nature of the problems suffered by Sevilla this season, particularly in the aftermath of Antonio Puerta’s death.
You will actually see from Ramos’ signings that he has done an excellent job of picking up players for cut-prices, when they were unwanted at other clubs; Boula and Poulsen are two of many. The only “big money” signing Ramos made has been Arouna Koné, which should in the long-term turn out to be a good move.
Jol needed to go, the club had reached tis full potential under him. They want more so the need someone else
Tottenham Hotspur FC, why not to give retards money!
And why does Ramos want to be the manager of them? They’re a much smaller club than Sevilla FC, and a lot less potential. He seems to be a complete greedy prick if you ask me! >:(
So wait - a club which has won 9 major trophies in its history is bigger than one which has almost that many FA Cups alone? (8).
Yes, Sevilla have a good squad, but why shouldn’t Ramos want a new challenge?
And he’s in the last year of his contract - not like he is rescinding a newly signed 4 year deal.
People may forget what you say…………
they may forget what you do..……………
but they wont forget how you made
them feel !!!!!!!!!
Thanks Martin you gave me hope!
Incidentally, Spanish Wikipedia have already got him down there as the Tottenham manager! Really does look like it’s a done deal.
That’s not the first time I’ve read utter tosh posted by Nerazzuri. Fair point Hugo, Sevilla are a great side, and I’m no Spurs fan, but Spurs definitely have heritage and as you rightfully ointed out have been more successful.
Steckelmacher:
One of the reasons for Sevilla’s decline this early in the season is also because of Kanouté, Keita, Koné and Boulahrouz all holding Ramadan[The Muslims fasting, not eating from Sinrise to Sunset.]. I believe that this had alot to do with it.
Not the first time you’ve been a complete dick KingOfZamunda, huh?
Fair enough Hugo, Spurs may have more successful but that doesn’t mean they’re a “bigger” club. They’re not in the Champions League and haven’t won anything in a long time.
Defeat from Rovers aside, I doubt that Ramos will make miracles. For starters, it is obvious that he’ll be running a relegation battle unless Spurs start winning now, which I highly doubt. Of course that come the end of season they’ll be far higher on the table, but that’s best that they can manage, and to achieve even that they have to start winning ASAP. And there is something very wrong with that team, don’t know what, but something is. And about all that youngsters business… He won’t be needing to find cheap and talented youngsters at Spurs, now will he. Unlike Sevilla, Spurs have a shitload of money, so Ramos will be able to choose among the big boys. Besides, Spurs currently need much more then young prospects.
I don’t buy most of the “big club” bullshit. Both clubs are steeped in history, Sevilla have perhaps more avid fans (and the Sánchez Pizjuán holds more of them, by some 7,000) but Spurs undoubtedly has more fans across the world, are richer and has a greater history. Sevilla are in the Champions’ League for the first time in their history - so how can they possibly be a “big club” in the sense in which Notts Forest and Leeds still view themselves to be?
Do I think Juande would have taken the job had he believed that he could have had a “top 4″ job? No, of course not. But Spurs are not to be belittled.
Redondo - you may be right. These things are hard to quantify. I haven’t done a survey of the fates of all of the teams with muslim players, but I do know that Abidal, Nasri, Benzema, Ben Arfa and a few others are not having such problems. But then I don’t know who is and isn’t fasting
Plus I don’t think Ribery, Anelka and Toure have done too poorly
