Possible Chelsea starting line-upChelsea superstar John Terry has publicly expressed his desire to continue at Stamford Bridge beyond this season.

The former England international’s contract at the west London club expires at the end of the season and has not agreed a new deal. The centre-back saw his compatriot Frank Lampard allowed to leave the Blues last summer.

The midfielder joined Chelsea’s league rivals Manchester City on-loan via New York City FC. Terry wants to avoid being another high profile departure from the club and has urged Jose Mourinho to hand him new one-year deal.

“The club know my position. I want to stay. Hopefully my performances are showing that and they can keep me,” Terry explained as quoted by BBC.

“I’ll be happy to get one year and then see how it goes. I’m taking it year by year. I haven’t got much choice.”

After coming up through the youth set up, Terry made his first team debut in 1998 and since then has been a long serving player at the club. He is aware that he does not have many years of top flight football left under his belt.

Terry has been Chelsea’s skipper and has been instrumental in their back four since making it to the first team close to two decades ago. The Blues have already signed Kurt Zouma, who is believed to be his long-term replacement at the club.

It should be seen whether Chelsea will hand him a new deal. Should have hand him a new contract, it is likely that Terry could see his first team appearances being limited, if the former Real Madrid manager sign another centre-back later in the summer.
