Manchester United striker rejects MLS move, but does he have a future at Old Trafford?

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez is a forgotten man at Manchester United. The Mexican, on loan at Real Madrid for the season, is now facing a dilemma with regards to his future. According to Spanish daily Marca, Hernandez is still looking to play at the top level in Europe, as he has rejected a move to Major League Soccer side Orlando City. He will return to Old Trafford at the end of the season and weigh his choices.

The goal-poaching forward, still only 26, was instrumental in United’s Premier League triumph in the 2010/11 campaign, scoring some vital goals. This was his debut season after signing from Mexican side Guadalajara. He continued to perform whilst Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, scoring another 30 goals in the next two campaigns as the Red Devils added another Premier League title. But since the Scot left the club in 2013, his form has dropped.

Louis Van Gaal found him surplus to requirements after bringing in Radamel Falcao this summer, and he was shipped off to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has managed 8 goals despite minimal playing time. His goalscoring prowess is still intact, but it remains to be seen whether Van Gaal sees a future for him at United. Both Falcao and Robin Van Persie could be shown the door in the summer, and this may give a sniff to Hernandez.

According to report by Marca, his dream is to make his stay at the Spanish capital permanent. But after a trophyless season, it looks like Madrid are going to have a busy summer, and could bring in at least one more striker, who could push Hernandez further down the pecking order.

Players usually go to the United States after getting past the prime of their careers. Orlando City have Brazilian legend Kaka on their books, but Hernandez doesn’t seem ready to make that move just yet.
