January Transfer Window crosses £30m as Liverpool and Chelsea look to improve their squads

The January Transfer Window is open for business and the high profile deals have already started to go through. Here is a round up of the major transfers and the concrete rumours so far.

Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool

This was one of the first deals to go through when New Years Day was upon us. Liverpool have paid Chelsea the princely sum of £12 million for Sturridge making him the second high profile striker at Anfield behind Luis Suarez.

Demba Ba to Chelsea

Demba Ba makes the move down to London from Newcastle United in a deal thought to be around £7 million. It’s reported that Chelsea offered just enough to trigger the release clause in Ba’s Newcastle contract. They’ve effectively signed Ba and made £5 million for the departure of Sturridge to Liverpool.

Joe Cole to West Ham United

Joe Cole has signed for West Ham United from Liverpool on an 18-month contract. He jumped at the chance to link up with the club where he first started his football career and it seems a good move for Cole as Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he didn’t fit into his Liverpool plans.

Angelo Henriquez to Wigan Athletic

This was another early deal to go through and has become one of the most talked about so far in January. Henriquez joins Wigan on loan for the rest of the season and goes to the club with a reputation as one of the most exciting players currently contracted to Manchester United.

Mathieu Debuchy to Newcastle United

Alan Pardew targeted the Newcastle defence as a key area he needed to improve this month and the club have tied the French international right back down on a massive five-and-a-half year contract. The fee is in the region of £5 million and demonstrates another piece of great business by Newcastle. Debuchy is being shipped in from Ligue 1 club Lille.

Tal Ben Haim to Queens Park Rangers

Tal Ben Haim has signed for Queens Park Rangers on a contract until the end of this season. QPR sit bottom of the table having leaked goals left, right and centre. The Israeli has plenty of experience in English football having played for Bolton, Chelsea, Manchester City, Sunderland, Portsmouth and West Ham United.

Marouane Chamakh to West Ham United

This deal hasn’t gone through yet but all reports are pointing towards the Moroccan striker signing for the East London side. It means an easy transition from one part of London to another for the player who may be unwilling to move outside the capital. Arsenal and West Ham are apparently engaged in talks.

Salomon Kalou to Queens Park Rangers

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is expected to bring in some additional fire power to try and help his team get out of the bottom three and up the table. Numerous reports suggest former Chelsea winger Salomon Kalou is a target and if anyone can convince a player to join his club, it’s Redknapp.

Joleon Lescott to Aston Villa

Joleon Lescott is being linked to Aston Villa according to fresh reports. He had been linked with a move back to Everton but his desire to play regularly and maintain his England international career means he could be open to a move to Aston Villa, if the club makes a formal approach.
