Italian website Gazzetta Dello Sport have claimed that manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal from Juventus. The astonishing news comes in the wake of Antonio Conte resigning as the Bianconeri Boss this evening.

It is believed that United who are financially boosted by the mega £750m Adidas deal had accelerated talks to sign the 27 year old who had a stellar World Cup in Brazil. The Red Devils had put an enticing €44m offer on the plate for Juventus and it is now believed that the English club have reached an agreement with the Old Lady to acquire the services of the midfielder.

Gazzetta Dello Sport also believe that Juventus had earlier promised Conte that they won’t sell the player. But it is this very acceptance from the Turin outfit to sell one of their prized asset that had angered Conte which ultimately led to his resignation from the managerial role.

My view: It is increasingly likely that Juventus require funds to strengthen their squad in the summer and thus were tempted by United’s offer for the Chilean. The Old Lady are desperate to mount a Champions League challenge next year but all of the good work under Conte seems to wither away.

The Serie A Champions will have to start afresh under a new manager who surely will take time to settle and inculcate his own philosophy in the team. For the Old Trafford outfit and their fans, its getting better and better in this transfer window. Somewhere in Manchester, Ed Woodward smiles, “You are next!”
