I agree he should be sacked either way. Harsh but true-he's had his chance. If we don't qualify i'll be gutted but it could be a blessing in disguise. We get a new manager in who then has plenty of time before the world cup 2010 to gel the team and get us fired up. If we do qualify it'll just end in heartbreak anyway. We need a winner like Jose who's not afraid to bench people. I hadn't considered that if we don't qualify we won't be able to attract a top top man(probably my English arrogance :P but i figured we're still England, it's an honour to coach us lol)but it's a good point. However, if that was the case i think Jose would still be up for the challenge, it'll appeal even more to his ego. Just imagine:he 'saves' us, we qualify for the WC and get to the final. Never hear the end of it!

If anything, Joe Cole has been consistently better for club and country this year than most of the players you name. However, Joe Cole is better nearer the middle of the pitch where he sees the ball most, instead of being forced to play out wide left.

McClaren is relying on playing the "Good Old Boys" far too often. Gerrard has been shit this year for club and country and receives none of the blame. His appointment of vice captain may be one of the worst things to happen to Three Lions, and ever since he has filled in for Terry, he has failed to inspire the Three Lions side. He deserves to be benched for a match or two to get his head on straight, or at least to receive his fair share of criticism for once.

Paul Robinson deserves to be benched for a terrible streak of poor form, and it would serve him right to get his head on straight and just train for a time until he comes back better.

McClaren also needs to stop sticking to his 4-4-2 which has been shit. His lack of effort in deploying a holding midfielder have handicapped Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, two great offensive threats that have been forced to play conservatively from the middle of the pitch. Coupled with both of them showing poor form, it is easy to see why Three Lions struggle, yet McClaren somehow indures while receiving justified criticism, and the Good Old Boys languish on the pitch while they do not perform.

IMO Stevie M (the way he refers to gerrard as 'stevie g' always has me in stitches roflmao!!) is just not up to the task. They say you don't appreciate what you have until its gone, and the truth is that if Sven was still in charge, you could have bet your mortgage that we would have qualified for Euro 2008 (probably with a couple of games to spare too). Also note that in the big matches against top opposition (Croatia, Brazil, Germany and Russia (away)), Macca has failed miserably. Even if we had qualified for next summer, would we have realistically stood a chance of winning the tournament if we cannot beat top class opposition under him??? I don't think so (we would probably reach the quarters once again, before gracefully exiting as usual...), so it's no big deal if we don't qualify. However, the FA must get things right for the 2010 WC qualifiers, as that REALLY would be a disaster if we did not make those finals.

Does anyone think Jose Morinho will step in? I know what he has said in the past, but taking over an England Squad would almost be too tempting to ignore.
