Is Liverpool’s Dossena set for quick Serie A return?
Dossena (left) has had a tough first few months in England.
The News of the World reported over the weekend that Liverpool left back Andrea Dossena could be set for a January move to Juventus or Roma.
The former Udinese man was signed in the summer as a replacement for John Arne Riise, who was shipped off to Roma. However, he hasn’t had the best of times so far, and he admitted as much recently.
Juventus could use some defensive quality and depth for a Serie A title run and the Champions League knockout rounds, but based on need, Roma need defensive upgrades a lot more. Roma were tipped to challenge for the Serie A title this season, but they currently sit in 17th. Defense has been a major issue, as they have let in 18 goals already (17th worst in Serie A).
Whether he lands in Turin or in Rome, he’ll be a relatively low-cost, high-quality solution to either’s needs. There won’t be any issues about knowing the playing style, and if Liverpool do sell in January, it’ll be for less than the 7m they paid for him.
Should Dossena allow himself more time to get settled in England, or are he and Liverpool better off if the club just cut its losses and makes a move in January?

Sell him..he’s not Liverpool quality. Sign Phillipp Lahm from Bayern Munich, or Gabby Heinze from Real Madrid, if we really want to become a proper title-challenging team in years to come.
We never like to sell at a loss but if he is not the right material what else can a poor boy do?
This is Rafa’s headache!
sell him and bring ginger back he was better than him as we don` t have any money to bring the best l back around in Lahm.
Hursh, Don’t you think Liverpool can mount a proper challenge this year?

It’s early doors yet mate! I’m not counting my chickens despite our good start…but you gotta admit, our first XI is still not as good as the first XI’s of Man Utd and Chelsea, who have world class players in practically every position. If I’m being painfully honest, only Stevie G, Nando and Mad Masch would walk into the first teams of United and Chelsea at present, which is why I think we still need a few more top class additions, so even if we end up not winning the PL this year, we will definitely do so the year after!!
Give ‘em time. He won’t be sold so early. It’s stupid to even contemplate such a thing especially if the source is News of the World.
Oh I think that’s a bit harsh…. I’d tip Carra to push for a spot in the back line. Also I’d take Reina over van der Sar and Cech anyday!
I believe Liverpool has quality players and miss PL will be bad lack. No need to cry for more players, let the manager try and put more effort on building the team.
Jenno, I’m afraid that Carra would not break the Rio/Vidic or Terry/Carvalho partnerships and his international career kind of positions his credentials. Great pro though and Liverpool thru and thru (can’t buy that!)
As for Reina, well most people rate Cech as the best keeper.
everytime i know he’s playing i really have my worries.
He lets players get passed him to easily.
Fabio Aurelio is the 1st choice left back for me.
Sell dossena i can’t see him getting any better.
He could cost us goals this season and in the future if we don’t get rid of him.
If the papers are true and say we are in debt and need to sell i think he will probably need to go.
A pointless signing.
I generally disregard anything in the notw as it’s either a load of crap or is covered better elsewhere. In this case I’d be surprised to see Dossena go so quickly, it can take time for players to settle, look at Evra or Skrtel when they first started in the Epl. If there isn’t any improvement by the end of the season I’d imagine Rafa would cut his losses then
