Slightly off-topic here, but just a tad disappointed that everyone I know seems to have missed out the chance to make a Borat joke. :D

Booing never achieves anything. If you sense the atmosphere during matches at Old Trafford/Goodison Park/Anfield you can see how the supporters spur teams on(its there at every ground, but its more intense at these places). Or any German Bundesliga game for that matter. The English fans sometimes behave like those Latin American fans, absolute hooligans......

I think that any supporter that boo's their own team is a disgrace, when a team is on the ropes they need the crowd to start singing, chanting cheering etc. to get them over the line. Players know at the end of a game if they have not played well enough and booing just takes away their confidence away rather than spurring them on. No wonder England isn't successful in football the players are probably too worried about being heckled to play well.

For me the issue is simple- the clue is in the word: SUPPORTers. It seems that stalemate has summed up England football since the Sven days; playing Gerrard/Lampard, trying diamonds, doing this/doing that and the pressure cooker is intensified and exacerbates everything. To a degree, supporters must make their feelings known- but surely it is best to stay quiet rather than boo- by virtue of their silent fans players will know that a game is not going as hoped.

This is why I like Capello- he is rational, strong, and will back himself. A camel is a horse designed by committee, and in Steve we had our definitive camel- too scared to make decisions as a manager and without the CV to back himself up. We all wanted Moruinho I'm sure, but there is more than one way to skin a cat- and Capello wil provide a fresh and balanced insight into the England side, putting him in an excellent position to make the decisions that matter. OK- he took a gamble on Walcott in Croatia and it paid off, and we are all now saying Walcott, Heskey and Lamps are the best things since Euro 96. The key is a sensible and considered approach, and surely the fans need to consider this too. We should be sure to not make the same mistakes over and over again, not to become tired of important debates, and to at least give some credence to the notion of unconditional support.
