Is Andriy Shevchenko’s time at Chelsea finally over?

Is Andriy Shevchenko’s time at Chelsea finally over?

He is often described as a £30 million Ukrainian tosspot and one of the most ridiculous foreign failures in the English Premier League. And now his stint with English football is drawing to a final curtain. Andriy Shevchenko might be one of the best strikers of his generation, the best ever footballer to have merged out of Ukraine and a UEFA Champions League winner with AC Milan but all those past laurels cannot deny the fact that Sheva is past his prime.

And this is the precise reason why Chelsea are ready to off-load him to virtually anywhere and spare themselves the blushes of feeding a constantly failing player in their team. Sheva might be one of Romam Abramovich’s best buddies but once upon a time so too was the ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. Now where is he?

Sheva is now being linked with a move to the Italian Serie A where he has been one of the most potent and lethal strikers in his 7 years with Milan. Although Milan were thought to be one of the early bidders for Sheva, they have now gone cold on their offer with Inter Milan and Juventus emerging as the most likely contenders for the 31-year old.

Sheva wouldn’t come at a huge price either. Chelsea manager Avram Grant has already declared that boss Roman Abramovich is eager to let the player go for a mere £12 million and that won’t be even half the sum that the Russian splashed out in the 2006 summer to sign the Ukrainian from Milan. Yet the inability of Shevchenko is settle at the club that he had wanted to join has not helped the player or Mr. Abramovich and now it looks likely that Sheva’s days at Stamford Bridge are numbered and that he won’t be observed in a Chelsea shirt after the January transfer window opens.

  1. At 12 Mill i’d advise SAF to take a gamble on him. Class is permanent.

  2. Subhankar:

Sheva also has a close relationship with Silvio Berlusconi, who is the godfather of his first son, Jordan. If he returns to Italy, one would think that Mr. Berlusconi would not want to see him at Internazionale or Juventus. Inter does not need another striker given their depth. He would probably sit on the bench with Juventus, or fight for minutes, as well. For me, AC Milan would be a better situation. But in the transfer market, one never really knows.

I thought that the move to Chelsea would be difficult for him. His style fit the Serie A, but apparently, there were family factors that influenced his decision. Along with Mr. Abramovich.

  3. i am a sheva fan what can i say, it is the players around him, think about it if u went to work every morning knowing the others did’nt want u there becuase u are best mates with thier boss, would u be able to do your best. get some milan midfields who pass sheva the ball and watch his goals come.

  4. Major cause that Sheva don’t perform lays down on the coaches,
Maurinjo and Grant don’t qualify to be a coach for Sheva,
They just don’t know how to utilize and deal with Superstar.
Sheva is Superstar, he was and he is now.
It’s just mental, as any other sport.
He will not move to Milan,
He will prove to his all enemy one more time that he is the best,
It happened already in with Aston Villa game, he will recover soon
And put minimum 6-10 goals on the show this year –
    You will remember my comments.
