Becks was not included because the All-star game is a showcase to reward the best players of the season so far. This eliminates Beckham from contention as he’s only played a couple games for LA this season. Steve Ralston belongs here too, but can't play because he's glueing the Revolution together. MLS could get more out of this competition and showcase its talent internationally by having separate East and West All-Star matches, collecting the international ticket revenue, foregoing a week of league play, and giving broadcasters and sponsors something to sell.
